Someone tried to blow up the statue of Wellington!!!

As above! Anyone hear anything about this? The Guards had it cordoned off this morning, neighbours are saying they heard a big bang in the early hours. The statue is still standing though. I dont know how it escaped this far, especially during the troubles!

Didn;t they do something similiar to the Wellington Monument when Prince Charles came in the 90s.

Whatever about blowing up Nelson's Pillar, the Wellington Monument looks magnificent in the Park.

GARDAÍ IN MEATH are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a suspicious object in Trim in the early hours of this morning.
The object was found at the Wellington Monument on the Summerhill Road in the town at approximately 1.10am. The Defence Forces’ Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was requested, and they attended the scene at 3.20am.
Gardaí report that the object was made safe.
The area in which the device was discovered is non-residential and no-one was evacuated.
The area has been sealed off and diversions put in place.

Whoever wrote that should learn how to write Irish before they use it as a political weapon.

Somebody not having Irish or not having much Irish doesn't bother me, but when they use pigeon Irish as a form of political protest, it makes me cringe.

The Army was called in early this morning after an improvised explosive device was found in a public place in a Co Meath town.
The Defence Forces deployed the Army bomb disposal team to Trim town centre, after the device was discovered beside the Wellington Monument on Summerhill Road.
A spokesman said the team arrived on the scene at 3.30am and removed the device to a safe location.
"A controlled explosion was carried out on the device in order to make it safe, and it was then handed over to the gardaí for their investigations."
The scene was declared safe at 5.30am, the spokesman said. Nobody was injured and no property was damaged during the incident.
Gardaí are investigating the discovery.
