Microwaving Eggs

I'm trying to be good and eat eggs in the morning. But I'm often in a hurry and end up microwaving the eggs (to make scrambled eggs). Is this counterproductive and taking the nutrition out of the eggs or is it OK to do?

Did you ever have an egg explosion when microwaving eggs?

Like you I microwave eggs the odd time when I'm in a rush, but I've had a couple of kabooms that took ten minutes to clean up. Would have been quicker in the pan!

Microwaved eggs still have to better for you than a jambon, sausage roll or nutri-grain bar that you'll no doubt end up grabbing from the shop if you skip breakfast at home.

I blew up one of those too, it makes an almighty bang as it hits the top of the microwave!

Ha ha, no explosions, I put it in a plastic container with the lid on. I'm still looking for an answer to my question tho. Does the microwave nuke the nutrition out of the eggs or no??

No, it doesn't ,eat away and enjoy it :)

I love to add a little grated cheese to my eggs before I nuke 'em, yummy

OP, If I may... Perhaps we should be asking, "What is the optimum setting that works for you when microwaving eggs, with & without yokes etc?"

(G'em - I'm interested in hearing your variation, including the cheese):)

I make a "poached" egg in the microwave. Put a splash of water (to stop it sticking) in a soup/cereal bowl. Break in the egg. Prick the yolk (to stop explosions) and cook for 1:10 at 70%.

bung eggs in deep, high-walled bowl.

Add cheese if desired (usually about a tablespoon per egg for me)

Bung in microwave for 2 mins at high power - I usually take them out half way through and give it a little stir to fluff them up.

    Eat and enjoy!!

As for the yokes/ no yokes part, that's entirely personal preference. I normally go for two whole, two whites, but that's just me :)

nutrition wise i'm not sure but to stop explosions, mix a little drop of milk
in the bowl with the eggs. or water if you prefer.

Why on earth would you think that a microwave could reduce the nutrition content of eggs?? Madness.

Because there are loads of myths about microwaves, I have heard this one numerous times, not eggs in particular but other foods. One thing I rarely hear from the myth spreaders is length of time of cooking. So there might be some truth to it, if you stick a carrot in a microwave for 2 days on full power it may have little nutrients left (same as a normal oven). You will hear crap like it destroys ALL nutrients -to which I would ask "oh really, so a kilo of carrots microwaved for 5 seconds destroys them?"

I never have good results doing them. You can boil a batch of eggs and keep them in the fridge. Then you could take them out and shell them, slice them up and put them in the microwave to reheat. I have done this and they can still explode but not as dramatically, like reheated chicken or soup can explode, you can put a plate on top to stop it going everywhere.
