Had my 14 month old at the public health nurse today and she mentioned that her knee's were uneven (don't worry, not asking for medical advice, I was already worried about DDH and asked her to double check for me) and that she was referring me onto a doctor that came to the clinic once a month who would check her over and then refer me on if they thought there was a problem. She mentioned the letters A M O before saying doctor...

What I'm wondering is, can my own GP refer me on into the system to get her xrayed for this or does this doctor have to do it?? Has anyone ever heard of this?? When my first daughter was referred on for an eye test in Rathdown Road my old public health nurse just wrote a letter, according to my new public health nurse (in a new area) they cannot refer on themselves anymore and need this doctor to do all their referrals for them??

Your GP can do the referral as well.
AMO's are the doctors attached to the screening and vaccination parts of the HSE in the community.
Different area's all seem to have different policies and ways of doing things.

Bit of a silly way to do it, especially since these two areas are beside each other (in the same HSE district)... oh well, off to the GP I go, not someone I see often but would rather that than waiting until possibly June before seeing the AMO...
