Selling the book of Kells to cancel out debt

Say a group of businesspeople Warren Buffett/Steve Jobs/Bill Gates/etc, you know the type...

They offer Ireland €150B for the book of Kells, they each want to have it in their houses for a couple of weeks a year & they say that we can have it for a two week period once a year where it can be displayed.

It would cancel our debt (& then some). Should we sell ?

    Please qualify your answer

    150bn?

There would need to be a mess of terms and conditions attached.

Like politicians getting none of it!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,784 ✭✭✭Superbus

    Is it worth that?

Does 'Ireland' as an entity own it?

    Why would they want it?

Where did that valuation of 150B come from?

    Anglo?

We'd sell it, go nuts on the profits, ignore any needed reforms to public services, engage in trickle-down ecomincs again, lend too much money we don't have and be back to square one by 2020.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Sure we'd have Newgrange sold off and turned into a private beauty spa then, keep us in the black for another decade. Bob's your uncle. :D

I dunno why they'd even want it. I mean, what are they gonna do with it??

I'd imagine it's a good tourist attraction though, and worth keeping in that sense. But €150bn is a LOT of money.

SUre its a load of arse as it is, trinity charges a fortune to see just one page.

Sell everything. Live moves on. You can't stop progress. Now's the time we should be selling off pieces of the Hill of Tara and Newgrange and digging up all around them and selling everything. When that's done, it's long overdue to start selling everything in the National Museum, National Art Gallery and all the rest.

When we get back on our feet again, we can pay a bunch of intellectuals then to create another set of "values". Within a few generations society will have created innumerable other sacred cows. Sheer genius the way it works, really.

    Yes, yes, let's sell it.

Then we can sell the GPO, Dublin Castle, The Ardagh Chalice, etc,etc...

Do you people ever think that the reason you want it to be sold is because you have no culture or interest our country's past?

We can sell the fcuking Spire alright, the Book of Kells...not so much.

Yeah, I'd vote for selling it.. What's the difference. Pretty sure this is the first time I've heard of it in about 7 years.
