Hi, recently bought a 2007 car in UK and registered it last week in Ireland. Today, it was taxed in Ireland. When I go online to try to register it for the NCT, it isnt found. It must be on the system through , no?

Can anyone shed any light on why this might be and what I need to do ? Should I even bother chasing it up or should I just let them send a request for NCT to me at some time in the future.

Only want to get it sorted as
    1)Its girlfriends car
    2) Heard varying stories about not being insured if no NCT

    Thanks

i did this recently with a smart roadster from the uk. in my case it took 7 working days from the day of paying the vrt until it was on there system for nct. i couldn't do it online i had to ring up.

Unless things have changed you'll need to phone to arrange the first time NCT on an import. For subsequent tests it'll appear online but not for the first one.

I imported my car at the beginning of the month. Once I had received the log book I was able to book an NCT online and did not have to call them. Are you entering the correct details on the NCT website?

You have to wait approx 3 working days for your new car reg and details to be put up on the system. Give it till then, its quite normal.

Remember as well, that until it's NCT'd you are not legally allowed to drive it on public roads.

NCT waiting list might be long, so our government might keep your car off the road for another month or two...

In my experience, its never been that long. NCT is outsourced now and are an efficient company in fairness. Ive always had cars seen within 2 weeks, no problem.
We will continue to drive the car...in any case, so long as you have documentation to say the car is checked in for NCT you can drive it.

Phone them and make your booking. My car didn't appear on their system, or so I thought, but it was because they had a different date of first registration than was on the VLC.

After I imported a car last year, I contacted NCT centre. Only week after registering it in Ireland, they confirmed they have it now on the database (after few calls over few days), and then they couldn't offer me any appointment in the next 6 months.
When I asked if this was a joke, I got a reply that waiting times are very long now.

    Not legally.
According to law, you are not allowed to drive your car if it's not NCT'd.
Only exception is, that you can drive it to the NCT centre on the test date.

Didn't know that, thought that only applied for the Mot in britain.
