Line issue causing broadband issue

    Hi,

I get my phone line from Eircom and my broadband from Vodafone. I believe I have an issue with the line which is causing issues with the broadband.

I'm seeing very slow connection speeds on my broadband. It has not connected any faster that 1M for the last two or three weeks, when it has usually been 5M or 6M in the past. I got in contact with Vodafone and they said that there is an issue with my line and that's why the connection is so slow. There is no discernible noise on the line - to my ears anyway. I have tried connecting the modem directly to the main drop (without filters) but I still get the same result.

The line from the house to the pole was replaced around a year ago - so I can't imagine that's the problem.

So, how do I go about getting the line tested?

I suggest you access your modem's control panel (This is done via your browser...if you enter the IP address of your modem which is found by running a program called ipconfig, although it's often "192.168.1.1") ...and find the page that shows statistics...that will show the noise level on your line.

    What modem are you using?

Yep, getting the connection speed from the modems web console. I have a fritz box 7270 (awesome).

84 upstream attenuation? Either thats incorrectly or there is something wrong with your line.... The snr seems fine though and so does your downstream attenuation which is odd if there is a fault. Unfortunately if the phone line is ok and this is causing only broadband issues you need to request someone to check out the issue via vodafone support.

    Hi chrskly

Are you being charged for broadband and line from Vodafone or is eircom billing you directly for line rental & calls?

    Thanks, Mark

Line and calls are Eircom. Broadband from Vodafone.

i.e. I get a bill for the line and calls from Eircom and I get a bill for the broadband from Vodafone.

    Hi chrskly,

Ok, can you PM your telephone number and I can test the telephone line directly for you.

    Thanks. Mark

    Hi Chrskly,

The number you provided does not have broadband service on the telephone line?

    Thanks, Mark
