Volvo V70 "Brake Failure"

    Looking for some advice here.

My 2004 2.0t V70 is intermittantly showing a computer warning saying "Brake failure, stop safely"
I brought it to the local garage and their computer identified it as an abs problem but would not identify it exactly. They advised it was not that serious and only affected abs braking. Apparantly Volve will not release all abs info to non franchised garages so would have to be fixed by one of the dealerships. Effectively as it's a long nct the advice was to wait until nearer the nct until getting it fixed.
I used to get it serviced at a dealership but stopped as the labour charge was 120 an hour (same garage serviced Mr's Fowls Ford for 80 an hour in the same garage !! they charge a higher rate for working on the Volvo )
Not comfortable driving with this warning (esp as when it comes on cannot view other computer info) but worred about how much it will cost.
    Local garage reckon easily 1000.
Any advice on what it may be, how much it will cost and are there any non franchised garages who could do the work in the South Louth, SE Meath, North Dublin area?

Head to Scully Autocare in Clontarf - there's a guy there that Volvo send cars to when they run out of ideas on how to fix stuff!

Sounds like it could be a faulty/dirty ABS Sensor.

Should be able to tell with a multimeter, best to check if their manky first

If its giving an incorrect reading that car will think that one wheel is not moving or is moving intermittantly, hence the ABS light will come on.
