So has anyone ever heard of a so-called "beer amnesty" at festivals?

Basically I was in my local Tesco earlier and as I was walking past the alcohol section I noticed they had these manky (first time I've used that word) looking cans of Tesco Value lager: http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/Images/ExternalImages/ProductsDetailed/75/009975.jpg?ts=633851753184

They only cost 99p for 4x440ml cans. Anyway, when I got home I checked the net for a review of the beer, just to see how písstacular it is, when I stumbled upon loads of websites saying that they are useful for use in a "beer amnesty".

So off to google I went and apparently at Music festivals Carling took in your shítty cans (no matter what brand) and gave you nice cold cans of Carling in return (which I suppose is also píss, but slightly superior píss).

Now, why would they do an offer such as this? What's in it for them? Is it the hope that people will develop a taste for the Carling and buy in future? Anyone ever heard of this Beer amnesty thing?

I can't see how they're getting any money out of it, but tis great for the people trading in.

    Just marketing

They're probably taking in your crappy cans, going around the back and filling up kegs marked "Carlilng", then serving it back to you but blended with everyone elses crap.

Genius marketing and wouldn't cost them a penny. :pac:

Because thousands of people walking around advertising their product is a good thing.
