As my DH is availing of the Back to work enterprise allowance, they want him to bring in 3 quotes of different companies, so far I did get 2 but I am finding it very hard to get a third, one company wants to meet with us first (which is a good way to go, but I just need to find out prices for now and do not want to waist their time with a meeting and then go with someone else:()
Does anyone know of a company that just email you a quote?

Same, by the way, goes for printers, one send out (lovely) samples but when I asked for a quote I got told the prices are on the web site (even when I explained the situation, now these lovely samples are used as tooth picks:D)
Another printer I have to chase up as they give me no reply

Do these people want business?? lol

    Hi mrsFitz,

You aren't being very specific here, and with cantankerous crowd that hangs out around here ... oh, wait ... that's just me. Anyway ...

You're looking for quotes, but don't specify what area it's in or why EI need quotes. So that would be a help.

What's a DH? I'm over 40 so the abbreviations commonly used in textspeak mean nothing to me (not saying that that's what it is), but if you want to get sensible replies to your enquiries, make sensible enquiries.

As for the printers. If you're telling them that you need quotes for any other reason than you're looking to buy from them, they'll be reluctant to go to the trouble. Is the printing work something you'll be re-selling or is it a one off job. Is it actually a job at all?

Try again. Let us know what's going on. Tell us what you need and why, unless you don't want to give away a business idea on the forum; and that's fair enough, and you can be sure that there are a bunch of people here only too happy to help. And that includes the cranky ones. ;)

How many products does your Darling husband want to sell?

What type of products are they? will the product range be changing often,

Tony DH= darling husband I think, and they need three quotes because otherwise someone could set up a business apply for a grant to spend with their friend and then close down the business.

I'm guessing here but it sounds like you've decided on a programmer and need two other quotes to appease the EI requirements and give them the run around. My suggestion is go to Elance.com or email out the spec of the site you've been given from your preferred supplier to several web development businesses and hope 2 get back to you.

On a lighter noted I got a text from a blonde friend asking what idk stands for. I wrote back "i dont know", she replied "omg no one does!":D

Ok now I am the dumb one but what does EI stand for:o

(and yes DH is darling husband)

Ronan is right, it is for a small grant and the company we choose to go with would get the money directly from the department.

I did not tell any off the companies I was not going to do business with them, some I did explain why I couldn't just look at their web site and calculate the price myself.

Oh and I thought the title of the thread stating I was looking for quotes for an e-commerce site explained it.

The printing is a start up package consisting of business cards, letter heads, Flyers and maybe a sign

    Hi mrsFitz

I third Elance. Get as much written down as you can. What the site should do, how it should look etc.

To that end there are people in Ireland worth chatting to too. You might want to try out the link below also and have a chat with ScreenGrab Ecommerce.

    www.screengrabecommerce.com

After that, being as specific as you can with how much you want the site to do is your best bet. My advice, don't get 3 quotes, get 23 quotes and compare. You might get more of a run down on what you want and get a better price all around.

    Hope that helps!

LOL, this is turning into one of those entertaining yet confusing threads.
mrsFitz, I hope I didn't come across as jumping down your throat. ;)

Yes website quotes can be highly exaggerated these days. My friend ended up paying about 1000 euro for some website that he didnt even end up using.

It was completely his fault though..

If it is not to much of a big site I could easily make it for you in a week or so :)
I also would be a lot cheaper than those others.
PM me sure if you are.. See my footer for my recent project.

Time to open the outsourcing can of worms again.

Does your husband have the technical and product knowledge to spec the requirements for the eCommerce site, and project manage the whole thing? If not, then I don't think that it's the way to go.

I'm not saying that outsourcing online is bad, just that you have to know exactly what you want, and be able to tell that what has been delivered meets your requirements. I've had some good & bad experiences with it before, and the good experiences were because I kept very on top of the process.

    Thanks all for recommending elance,
    I got 13 quotes:D
That should please the job facilitator even if most of the offers came from India/Russia and Pakistan.
