    Hi there ..
I'm looking for some ideas - We're living in Dublin and I'm off next week but rather than going away, I want to do a few day trips with my daughter who's 3 and a half. Anyone any ideas ??
    Thanks
    A

Mod Edit: Please do not use forum abbreviations - DD changed to daughter.

I took my son fishing at Annamoe fish farm and he caught THREE trout! He was delighted with himself. And I think a funpark, forget what its called, nearby is openning this weekend too.

Was just about to start a similar thread.

Farmleigh have stuff on over the long weekend. Storytelling, Easter Egg hunt, etc.

The zoo is always an option as well.

    Hi All,

Looking for a list of events or activities for kids (5 & 3 years) this weekend?

    And advice?

    Thanks

Buy some sardines and go out to howth and feed the seals.

Events on in the national museums

The Natural history museum is always a good trip and then into the play ground in merrion square.

Take a look at the Dublin day Pass.

I brought my son out for the day on one last year, we did the Croke Park tour, The dracula Museum and the Zoo. Really good value for money, have a look at the attractions/offers on the link below.

I was just looking at the Tayto Park website. My anti-corporate skepticism was blown away. It looks pretty damn good. €40 for the family isn't the cheapest but it appears you can stay as long as you like. This might be a day out next week for the Mac-ettes :)

    Oops - forgot link: http://www.taytocrisps.ie/park/

Apparently it's not fully open yet and there's only a few animals and the playground plus restaurant open... lots of people complaining that it's not worth the €40 at the moment...

How about Rathbeggan Lakes? Thinking of heading here Easter Monday if it's open :)

A colleague of mine was actually in tayto park last weekend and he was very impressed !! He said the play area was huge and the Kids loved the little zoo/pet farm there. He said the restaurant was quite nice too. He did say the access roads once you got off the motorway weren't great though. For 2 adults and 2 kids it cost them €40 but he was so impressed that they actually got an annual pass which cost €100 - the €40 admission was deducted off that. Best to get there early cause he said it was very busy from early afternoon ...

No need to even pay for this one aside from petrol / DART, Wrights of Howth will give you a bag of leftovers (fish that has already been filleted mainly) to feed the seals with for nothing :)

Our kids absoloutely love the http://www.kiaoraminifarm.com/, by far the best of the farm days out we've had - even a converted Fire Truck that the kids get a spin in. The Glenroe farm isn't bad either though.

Playgrounds make a great afternoon out for younger kids, especially if you bring a picnic and with the weather we're getting at the moment, what could be better than fun, free exercise!

    Some good playgrounds we've tried:
    • Malahide Castle has upgraded their playground recently.
    • Ardgillan Demesne also has a fabulous playground if you're around Balbriggan
    • Cabinteely Park has a *huge* playground

Where do you go in Howth to do this? Not familiar with the area but the kids would love it I'd imagine.

    Down at the west harbour.
Most of the shops and the tourist office have a map of all the attractions at Howth and the seals are marked on it.

The National transport museum is also good fun, the hours it opens are limited but there are all the old buses and trams and even a tank which you can climb into.

I've been to the National Stud and Japanese Gardens a couple of times. It's a nice afternoon out. €27 for a family of two adults and up to 4 kids.

Just spent a very enjoyable afternoon in Farmleigh. The magic show was good - the kids loved it. But their favourite part was the storytelling - he was excellent and the kids had a great time. That plus a wander around the gardens made for a great day. Considering the cost was zero (before icecreams and drinks) the value for money was top notch :)

The food market is pretty crap to be honest - very little farm produce - mostly the usual crepes/hotdogs/breads you see everywhere. The summer flower fair was alright -not a massive selection of plants but we did pick up a couple of things for the garden.

It's on again tomorrow so if you're looking for something to do I'd recommend it.
