    Hi all,

Won't be changing the toe rag for a couple of years at least so thought I'd treat myself to a better audio system to soften the blow.

Looking for something which will blend into the dash and not stand out like it's out of place.

    Key features I need:-

    1. Bluetooth compatible meaning it has a built in microphone for making/receiving calls, will automatically switch off the radio/music if a call is received or made and will allow my android phone to stream music through it. Would be good to be able to connect to more than one phone/device in the car at the same time or failing that it would be good to be able to prioritise which phone it connects to. I don't want my other halfs phone to be connected instead of mine!!
    2. Nice clear/clean display with a blue background to fit in with the rest of the dashboard lighting- I don't need graphics jumping around the place when music is being played.
    3. DAB functionality would be nice but not worth paying serious extra money for.
    4. Needs to be able to play CD's but MP3 functionality isn't important and I don't need DVD functionality or sat nav functionality.

I'm in South Dublin so the temptation is to tip over to Halfords in Carrickmines, pick something they have in stock and let them fit it but I know that's the lazy way to do this and not necessarily the smart thing to do. I also know from first hand experience that they can make a mess of fitting of car audio systems.

Suggestions re models to get (single or double DIN if the Touareg will take double DIN) and/or people to fit would me much appreciated.

I need a project for the weekend!!

    Ben

Put up a photo of the current Dash / Radio. My understanding was the Touareg had a fairly tightly integrated headunit.

Have you looked at Retrofitting the 30GB (or whatever it is) new head unit in the later models?

    Hi Matt,

Good points. Not sure how I'd go about sourcing a later model head unit, I guess via a VW dealer (sounds expensive!!) or a scrap yard.

Picture of the dash below. It's not my actual dash but the same RHD year and model and looks identical to mine.

Be careful with that.. I have a 06 Passat that I would like the newer stereo unit for but it comes with a "battery drain problem" unless I change the canbus wiring too apparently.
