Farm & Stock Question

    Hi All;
    I just have a quick question that may be obovious;

    I have a farm with I partly rent out and keep sheep on the rest. I maintain the flock register for the sheep etc, however we haven't kept cattle for 10 years or so, which mean that part of the herd number is dormant

    The person renting the couple of fields now has some of his cattle on this land, and keep the rest on his own farm;

    Stupid question, but do I need to re-apply for the cattle part of the herd number as there is now cattle on the land again?

    Thx
    B

    Thanks for the quick reply;

    Are you saying that I cannot have someone else rent the land and use their own herd number?

    No. The person who rents your land must have his/her own herd number to be allowed to keep cattle on it. Whether you have a herd number or not is immaterial (unless you plan to keep cattle?)

    one last question;

    Is there such a thing as a 'bed & breakfast" system for wintering cattle using someone else shed/land?

    i.e.
    - Farmer A rents Shed/Field from Farmer B for winter or grazing (e.g 3 months)

    - Farmer A transfers cattle into Farmer B's stock register for the 3 month period

    - when the 3 months are up, the cattle are transferred back to Farmer A

    - Farmer A just pays for the 3 months grazing/wintering etc

    Sorry for what is probably obovious:)
