Parts of the moon being sold

    Hi.

Recently on 96FM someone was talking about their company selling parts of the moon. Hearing things like this makes me lose all faith in the human race. The moon should belong to no one person or country but to all of us.

What is it with all of this privatising greed? Yet more capitalist idiocy.

Well it's pretty enevitible that the human race will expand beyond earth, start to colonise the moon, maybe mars. I find that exciting. Maybe some day I can visit the moon. :)

has this not been around for donkeys years?

Apparently Anglo lent a developer €500m to buy enough land to build 10,000 apartments.

Or approximately a piece of land the size of a football pitch.

I am all for progress. But lets hope humans ditch the capitalist bull**** system by the time we reach for other planets/moons.

Yes, I am proud to say I own a nice little 1 acre site on the Moon, bought it a couple of years ago from one of the many internet sites selling moon land, stars etc.

Now keep off my property you pesky kids.

The last government bought some of the moon to supply next Christmas's free cheese requirement I believe.

Even so, but how long before it becomes reality? The idea of privately owned parts of the moon is repulsive.

I somehow doubt that you could enforce your claim to a plot of land on the moon.

    Oh no, not me
    I never lost control
    You're face to face
With the man who sold the moon

The moon belongs to America, and anxiously awaits the arrival of their astro-men. Will you be among them?

PS My new website to sell property on one of the other planets will be up and running soon. Anyone want to buy property on Myanus....... no wait Uranus...... damn.

    I'll get my coat.......

These contracts are not worth the paper they're printed on. Whatever nation (USA, China, India) lands on that part of the rock will claim it.
Ask the Native Americans about the land deals they signed with the USA over the centuries. Those were respected....oh wait.

How can someone sell something they dont own?

Next you will have morons trying to sue astronauts for trespassing*

*assuming someone ever lands on the moon again.

You think their time would be better served trying to solve many of the worlds problems without the need for this type of tripe.

what do you mean again? when did they do it the first time?

This has been around for years.

Why? Say we develop a cheap and reusable method of getting to the moon, accessible to any one. Why shouldn't they own their own little plot if they're colonising it? Or have a sovereign government?

Hell even the Cubans are allowing private property now!

Because you'll have idiots that will buy this type of guff! what are the chances of any of these intrepid 'prospectors' ever getting to the moon? Even if they did what would or could they actually do with their acquired plot?

Now at the minute there is a debate ongoing about mining the moon for Helium3. That stuff could power a lot of stuff on earth with no environmental impact. The moon would be fücked but we'd be sound on Earth.

Yeah the Moon isn't owned by anyone, and I really don't think this company has the right to sell people parts of the moon either.

I'm aware of that, I don't think it would last too long in the scenario I described above. That treaty seems more a relic of the cold war tbh.

What is wrong with you? Don't you see how Earth is being wrecked by capitalism, now you'd like to see that failed system on the moon? The moon should be there for all, not just the elites.

The Chinese will be there soon, so we'll soon have a communist moon.

That's one small step for man, one great leap forward for lunar politics.
