Personally I'd ignore an site that doesn't have any information or an address or contact numbers.

What brought you to it, and what were you hoping to get from it?

Probably set up to catch Google traffic or something like that.

All the product content is grabbed from Wiggle and the rest is just a mishmash of UK and US text.

    It's certainly not a shop.

Yeah, spotted it yesterday. Bit odd if the aim is to catch Google traffic.

    Domain is registered to<snip>
No description of what they actually do and company name which effectively means nothing.

They've been around since 2003 though. My suspicion is that they're probably a PR company, but there's no info on the actual "shop" to link it to any other business.

Spotted it before in a google search - very fishy: their "shipping" page ONLY refers to continental US orders? .ie WTF?
Seems to be just an exercise in gathering IP addresses interested in bike stuff...

    Hi Folks

    Brian here from <snip>
Thanks for all the comments in the thread.

We are a bona fide company. The lads here have an interest in cycling and felt that there was room for a good web site for Irish bikers so we set up <snip>

Our goal is to get a great selection of cycling gear, at good value, with low or free delivery and gather them in an easily searchable format for Irish cycling enthusiasts.

The site is new so we have to update the 'about us' section and 'contact details' which we are in the process of doing. Thanks for pointing that out to us

We want to offer useful and relevant content for our visitors and would be more than happy to promote local events and points of interest for the Irish cyclist and with this in mind, please feel free to mail us with details of interest and we’ll put it up on the site.

We have got some great feedback so far and our customers are very happy with the service.

We appreciate the thread, it is showing us some areas we have to concentrate on to provide a more comprehensive bicycle product offering to the Irish cycling enthusiast.

    Brian

What does your company actually do?

What service do you provide to your customers?

Just to be clear, I have been in touch with Brian to ensure he does not inadvertantly end up promoting his business (which is against Boards rules). We can allow him to provide factual responses to questions raised though

    Thanks

    Beasty

It seems to me this site simply points you to other reytailers such as Wiggle. Seems pretty pointless to me when you can simply order directly form the retailer

Brian, does your company actually sell anything?

They get paid a small amount for referring the customer to Wiggle etc...

Got a few more questions for you Brian - hopefully your answers will help allay other posters concerns about your site
    1. Your business name - is this bicycle.ie? Is there a limited company behind it?
    2. You show no business address - is this deliberate?
    3. What happens with returns - where are they sent?
    4. Presumably Wiggle have given you permission to link to their website - do you take commission on sales by 3rd parties?

The last one can be answered by this I think

    <snip>

Essentially any link from their site to wiggle has ?referid=affwin&utm_source=affiliate-window&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_campaign=www.bicycle.ie tagged on the end of it.

Looks like it's driven by this http://darwin.affiliatewindow.com/merchant-profile/1857

    Hi, Brian here from <snip>

What we are doing is the following. We have found from our own interest and what is happening on the web that people want a good selection of products at good prices. This is a young site and very much in the development stage. Our aim is to search out good deals for Irish people looking for good quality products at good prices.

We have an agreement with some suppliers to promote their products in Ireland and have recently been approved with a number of other good suppliers to do the same. We are also looking at bringing in some products directly where we feel there is currently insufficient choice or value.

Our criteria for working with suppliers are their product offering, price, customer service (including returns policy) and delivery charges to Ireland.

We will update our business address as soon as possible, however, the e-mail address through the “contact us” button is active and comes directly to us. We have successfully helped customers in finding specific products through this medium. We are completing our 'About Us' section as suggested on this forum, and it will be updated soon.

We plan to develop the site further by extending the product offering to include more products from more suppliers, and also our own products. We are hoping to include a free section where any biking enthusiasts or cycling clubs can show their events to our users and customers.

Thanks for the feedback. I hope this answers most your questions. I have tried to avoid any comments that seem like advertising to comply with boards.ie rules. Come back to the site in a few weeks and you will see the new updated sections.

    Regards

    Brian

I don't understand why you cannot supply a business address Brian

I also can't understand why you do not indicate if you are a limited company or not - I would like to know the name of the company behind this, as I would like to check the company out.

What I really cannot understand however is why anyone would go to the bother of buying from Wiggle via yourselves when they are perfectly capable of placing an order directly and getting their own discount

If you cannot answer such basic questions I am not sure what the point of you posting is, unless it is simply to promote your website

    Sounds pretty dodgy to me

I assume the point of him posting is to counteract the previous posters who suggested that his site was "dodgy"? In fairness it wasn't him that started the thread!

It's unfair on the business in question to make unfounded allegations about it. Equally, particularly as so many questions remain unanswered, it is not appropriate to give publicity to the business in question here. We have therefore decided to close the thread for now and remove references to the website/business name

The business was given the opportunity to provide answers to some of the legitimate questions asked. If Brian wishes to PM me with the relevant information, or provide additional evidence to verify the authenticity of the business, we can consider re-opening the thread

    Thanks

    Beasty
