Need to dispose of a car

    Hi,

My trajet hyunday that was first registed in nov 2001 is now sitting in a garage after I just paid for 3 months of tax and 250 for it's service. The car died the day after I had collect it from the garage: The timing belt is gone and the mechanic said the engine has been damaged; It will cost me at least 1,500 to repair it. I will not do that because I already spent 1,500 repairing it last year and I know the car is now a liability. I just want to find a scrappage deal that will pay for the tax and service money I just spent. We will use my husband's car for the moment until we can buy something else (thankfully he is working abroad now and we will survive with the one car for myself and the 3 boys). I just have no idea about what to do, if anybody has any advice I would appreciate it. Thanks.

You could try selling it on donedeal.ie for very very cheap and someone should buy it depending on how cheap you're willing to get rid of it.

Or you could sell it to a breakers yard.

Or you could buy some small cheap car on the scrappage scheme... Like a Toyota Aygo or a Fiat 500 or Renault Clio...

AFAIK you can declare it scrapped and get a refund on the tax

Bring it to a scrap metal dealer and get money for it. €120 / ton.

Quel.087--What type of price you got in mind for the Trajet?

I know someone looking for one with a fecked engine. It would have to be cheap as anything for him to consider it.

I would be happy to sell it for 600 Euros. The car needs to be fetched from the garage in Killaloe, Co. Clare.

Would 400 Euros be a good price? I would not fully cover the expenses from last month but nearly.
