Claiming Rent Allowance

    Guys,

Dunno if anyone would be able to help here but... I lost my job just before Xmas. Luckily I could move home with my parents for a couple of months, but I'm struggling to get a job. I badly need my own space again, and my parents have offered to rent me a room on the cheap in a second house they have (one of their tenants has just moved out). I know you do not qualify for rent allowance if you live with your parents, but can I claim it, or at least part of it if I am renting from them since its not the family home and its their other property. I'm in my late twenties.

I know one of my mates who's in the same situation as me, but she's living with her sister instead of her parents and she's getting some rent allowance.

    I would appreciate any advice!!
