The Gala shop on East Road in East Wall (just around the corner from the Seabank House) is selling Easter Eggs for only 99cent.

The ones they have in stock are Caramel, Rolo, Moro, Buttons, Crunchie amongst others. The Caramel egg is 178g and the Moro one is 189g and it seems that the reason they're cheap is that they're out of date in July 2011.

They have a sign up saying that the Eggs are limited to 2 per person but I've no idea if they're strict on this or not.

I have absolutely no connection to this shop.

I might be wrong, but I think that July 11 would be the normal sell by date for Easter Eggs in the shops at the moment. They're made so far in advance, like they're in the shops since not long after Christmas so they're probably produced last October/November.

Anyway, I shall be telling my northside friends to swing by on their way home :)

thats a normal date for easter eggs, limiting it to 2 per customer is because they've paid nearly €2 for the egg, like tesco and dunnes a like, but they are hoping that you'll buy enough other things with it to make up the 1.50 to €2.00, they've lost on the 2 eggs, it's a real nuisance to less organised consumers because it causes major shortages of production on easter eggs because when the shops are making no money they certainly cant afford to have any left over stock after easter, so many of the shops selling the eggs below cost run out a few days before easter. (there is so much sugar in chocolate that it will never go bad once it is stored right, it turns white if its left in the sun but it is still ok. chocolate companys need to put best before dates or shops could just stock pile quantitys and the manufacturers wud have no idea how much will be demanded at any time.)

It is a normal date as said. I think they artificially short date them so shops will not keep them for next year, also I imagine the egg will not keep as well as it is fairly loosely wrapped in tinfoil compared to fully sealed bar. And the other posters comment on production starting early. I expect they might have easter egg machines running for many months of the year, rather than buy in load of redundant machines which would lie idle for the rest of the year.
