Vodafone Mobile Broadband

So here is the story. I've been a customer with Vodafone Mobile Broadband since last summer. Things have been pretty good as I was lucky enough to get the "unlimited download" package for €25 a month.

I haven't been going crazy downloading since I got it as I usually use their service to contact my g/f via a video chat service. I was forced to use one other than Skype as they filtered Skype, i.e. when using Skype connection dropped to a snails pace. Anti-competition laws anyone? I know it is filtered as they've told me as much as the other services I use have the same data upload/download rate but work perfectly.

I put up with this minor inconvenience as I was happy with the package. Thing is in the last few weeks my connection has become rubbish. We're talking 56K here with regular connection drops.

I rang them today and was told, to paraphrase here, 'well yeah, what is happening is that we're regulating your connection speed to ensure that everyone else is not effected by your usage. We admit that it is not a great service but the only thing we can offer you is to terminate your contract for free. Your connection speed should pick up again after your next bill but will drop again soon after'.

When I pointed out that this was hardly "Unlimited download" (after getting a letter to encourage me to download as much as I wanted!) he had the cheek to say 'well vodafone would argue that since you are connected...it is'. I pointed out the being regularly dropped does not constitute connection he went on to say 'well you're technically still connected'. A lame semantics argument.

ANYway, point is this is a pretty crap service and I'm thinking on changing my provider. I rent and a landline is not an option so can anyone recommend a mobile broadband that doesn't take the piss in this way? I'm keen to avoid a monthly cap on usage as I need it primarily for video chat - which needless to say is also suffering from Vodafone's actions.

    Hi ,

I got a vodafone mobile broadband on March 2011. i'm extremely sorry to say this ,, i'm really disappointed about this service. i'm living in Maynooth but i even can't log to webpage. its average speed is 32-50 kbps all the time. i'm spending 19.99 euro per month. but this service is **** really. i never recommend Vodafone mobile broadband to anyone. i don't even talk over skype. i'm still struggling here to call my parents in Sri Lanka. that is the only way i can reach them easily. but i'm sorry to say this i didn't talk with them ages. just only short call by my mobile. i have complained about this matter with Vodafone customer service but nothing work it out yet. i did all the thing which they instructed to me.

Please don't buy Vodafone Mobile Broadband.

    Regards,
    Vinod

By chance I managed to post re.Vodafone mobile broadband. The signal/receptivity/speed has been particularly bad or non existent at certain times of day in the Nth Wexford/Wicklow area in the last few months.Struggling with this now.Has taken 10 minutes. Its unreliability has cost me.Many complaints re. same from friends and acquaintances too.

Come on Vodafone, get your act together.I'm sure there are enough complaints regarding your service to warrant an official investigation!
