I wonder is this current barca team so good that its impossible to come up with 11 players that could beat them in the possession game, even if you were to try and pick an 11 from any era would you be able to come up with a team to try and out pass this current barcalona team, I doubt it but here goes, the only way I can see of doing it is to only pick midfielders and 2 fowards players that were really good on the ball, the below might have a good go,I have only picked players I have seen live

    VDS

    Cafu---McGrath-Stam---R.Carlos

    Alonso

    ----Scholes
    Zidane---

    -Maradona
    Ronaldinho

    Ronaldo(brazillian one)

Most of the players in your team are past it by now!

A midfield of Hagi- Keane - Valderama - Requeme would be a good match up.

A midfield trio of Fabregas, Essein and Xabi Alonso would be probably the only hope of dominating Barcelona possession wise, and all three would need to play at their very peak, which Essein and Cesc haven't managed for quite some time.

That trio wouldn't come close to matching possession against Barca. If they had a spikey striker to pass to they'd give them a game though.

No point picking retirees as Barca would have the ball some of the time and you'd find the lads with zimmer frames struggling after half an hour.

You ultimately want all your team to be ball players but with the other necessary attirbutes to fit into a formation similar to that of Barca's.

    Reina

    Lahm
    Ferdinand
    Kompany
    Cole

    Xabi Alonso
    Fabregas
    Sneijder

    David Silva
    C. Ronaldo
    Rooney

Ronaldo gets in because you need that bit of electricity and he would be guaranteed to thrive on all that service. Silva is one of the best players at dictating the pace of the game and a top form Rooney will create a lot of problem, particularly if he drops wide and mixes it up with Ronaldo a bit. The back four and goalkeeper are all comfortable on the ball and have the pace to cope with Barca, while the midfield three is more than solid.

That team while good and could possibly beat barca wouldnt outpass them, im trying to pick a team that would do to barca what they do to every team today and you can pick any 11 players who ever played the game

Chances are, Barca'll have had anyone who can pass and more importantly withhold possession under pressure snapped up before anyone else gets them, so no..

It's not so much about the ability of the individual, for example, Dani Alves [despite having been put upfront against Madrid (?)] is not as good at passing as the rest of the team, but he is good enough to get out of cul-de-sacs with the others around him.

    Schmeichel

    --Cafu
    Baresi
    Desailly
    Roberto Carlos--

    Deschamps

    Maradona
    Zidane

    Hagi

    Van Basten
    Baggio

Suddenly aware that none of the players I chose are still playing.

A team to outpass Barca. This is not my 'best team in the world not including Barca' but not far off it tbh.

    Casillas
    Ivanovic
    Luiz
    Vidic
    Lahm
    Cambiasso
    Pastore
    Fabregas
    Robben
    Tevez
    Rooney

It's not about players, it's a bout mentality and the Barca upbringing. No team could "out Barca" Barca.

that team Xavi put up could definitely match Barca in passing.

the problem is, no other team deploys Barca's style, so in many ways we can't imagine another team 'outpassing' Barca.

but put Guardiola in charge of that team, have the style coached into them, and every one of them there has the talent to compete on that basis.

    This.

You can't just arbitrarily pick 11 players and presume they could outpass Barcelona. They do what they do so well because they have an understanding that can only be achieved through years of playing together.

What would even be the point of simply outpassing a team? Do you out pass them with the intentions of going on and scoring more goals than them? If so, you need to add a few top quality finishers to the mix and possibly compromise on passing ability.

Do you outpass them with the idea of conceding as little as possible? If so, you need to add the best defenders to the mix, also possibly compromising on passing ability.

This is all very pointless and baseless, its making my head hurt.
And before anyone asks, NO, I won't "just go with it" :pac:

lol, did you watch that game? Barca had about 70% of possession and should have won the game comfortably with the chances they had.

It is ludicrous to suggest that Arsenal beat Barca at their own game that night.
