    pre 2003 ECHR act did ireland abide by the 1998 act? so confused with this.i know the irish coursts have to take and hear cases under the 2003 act but finding it hard to get info pre 2003?

    If you mean the Human Rights Act 1998, then no, that was a UK statute. Our ECHR Act 2003 is very similar but has some important differences.

    ah ok so that had nothing to do wth ireland then...however pre 2003 ireland didnt have any human rights legislation save what was provided in the constitution did it?

    No, as far as I know we had nothing but the Constitution. In fact, one of the reasons that we were so slow to enact the 2003 Act was that it was considered that the Constitution pretty much covered everything the ECHR did, and in some case covered more.
