I'm up for any of them, although a pre-emptive nix on the Market Bar would be good. I HATE that place it's like drinking in a disused train station, bleurgh.

    :p

What about the Secret Bar, that's always nice (plus the waitresses are HOT!). Flounge is too, and we can all be SYUPER GAY there and no-one will mind... ;) My go-to for a group thing where you want an area is always Messers McGuire on the keys. Bog standard pub but the bookable areas are nice.

Yeah, I'm not mad about the market bar at all.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Well not everyone likes 'scene' bars and not everyone who goes is 'super' gay or even out.
Guess it depends on what people want a loud dance bar or somewhere to sup and natter.

Definitely not somewhere playing really loud music and you can't hear other people talking

I'm sure some of us could be super gay in a quiet pub too.

Sorry, my 'super gay' comment was a joke...

I second having somewhere a bit quieter, it's nice to just have a chat, seeing as this is primarily a 'get to know you' event...

    FINE!

No I agree, somewhere nice and quiet. The only one of those I've been to is Porterhouse (central) which isn't that noisy.

i cant do the 14th - aunts 50th - am so not gonna wanna drink any other night that weekend - unless my arm is twisted!

generally most days can be doable

as for venue - well i would like it if it wasnt inaccessible. i can manage on a walking stick when i have to but im still paying for the other day! - so if i can use the roll walking aid thatd be great.. a couple of steps is no problem, its just big stairs and the like.
i have a 'syuper ghey' roller, it has pink sparkly fuzzy dice on it (jk - i never ever thought of it as gay - just funny)

even better if its not in the middle of nowhere cos i tend to use the green luas but sure you can work around that (taxi please!)

never been to a scene bar in my life so i cant really suggest any bars. the only ones in town ive been to with groups is the longstone inn on townsend street, messers mcguire and some of the joints along the quays close to o'connell bridge. oh and the dandelion at stephens green is lovely. ive been to zanzibar a fair bit before - its further down on ormonde quay i think though but if i recall correctly the last time i went it was a lot louder than it used to be (and dancey)

man after last weekend I'm really unsure as to whether I ever want to drink again! But I could have tea I suppose. And yes, I advocate quiet :)

    You know you want to!

Out of interest, what were the numbers at the tea gathering?

Also you should all pick Saturday 30th April. You know it's a good decision.

Sorry! Couldn't resist it. I completely understand though, I'm quite shy in new social situations (or any social situations full stop ). I'm still debating if whether or not, I could muster up the courage for these things.

Go for it. What have you got to lose. (Diddlybit goes off to try take her own advice and wonder why she needs to refer to herself in the third person. :o)

Do! It's great! But for God's sake make sure you can get a job before you do go there. Because I sure couldn't find one. Although I have no practical qualifications (BA and MA but they don't count for sh*t) OR work experience ;)

Damn it, I meant to vote for any Friday or Saturday.

These things really make me nervous..

I never had the courage to join LGBT societies in University in either UCC or UCD. I just felt I was too much of a bland, regular, particularly unfashionable, joe soap. Sure I better force myself to go anyway.

The only conclusion from the above poll is that Thursdays are a non runner. Thank goodness for that.

ah sure we're all bland and normal to ourselves, aren't we? :) I bet you're great! Come, it'll be fun :)

I don't like joining things that are already cliquey. This is people who mostly have never met each other, so really everyone should as well come.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,512 ✭✭✭baby and crumble

yeah, if it's on a date I can make it I'm there. It's nice to meet some new faces every now and again, especially people who you've talked to ona semi-regular basis for 6 months!!!

And yes, the Secret bar is the one beside Hogans. There used to be a waitress in there that was so beautiful she made me weep.

Ok, not weep. More unable to talk. Plus my work colleagues were there. And they then teased me unmercifully. And introduced me to see what I'd do. I think I ran away.

    Good times. ;)

Never been, but it would be good in the view of meeting up say at the Grafton Street corner of Stephens Green and walking up. Then everyone finds it etc.

    PS. VOTE 30TH

excellent idea - not only would everyone find the place then - we'd find each other which is usually hard in a packed or even semi packed joint. also a good way to know how to get back to the main bus area later on

We can keep the poll open for a while yet. No rush to close it just yet.

I'm just going to have to sit back and let everyone else decide, I'm afraid, as my roster in work is unpredictable to say the least, and I really don't know what it will be past next week.

Secret place... Some of my friends refer to that as the Snail Bar or the No Name bar... One of these days i'm going to have to go through their post or ask for a receipt just to confirm what the name is...

Prehaps a mod could sticky this to the top of the page? (Prob a good idea to wait till the 1st of may and then shut the poll? Looks like twords the end of the month as things stand...!):)

I didn't put a sticky on this because I think that people skip the sticky posts a lot. I personally can't make any dates until mid month. If you are going to have it on a Friday though perhaps have it early so people can go there straight after work. I know last time it was on a Friday someone complained.
