Great article. I see you get a few mentions!, I didnt know you were one of the hopefulls. I'd say you have a few good stories from back in the day on the circuit.
How about a memoir blog post every now and then sometime after the World Championship. About the snooker circuit and real life stuff you remember back then?.

Yeah a few classic moments posts would be more than welcome zack ;) We all know there have been many over the years!

In relation to the article - sad to think that so many who perhaps deserved to have made it to the main circuit never did due to the shoddy system. I wonder would the top 16 look much different today if they had sorted it out sooner.

Great article. The reference to snooker being introduced in Chinese schools as part of their curriculum ... I'd have loved that when I was in school!

There has been talk though over the past couple of years that the top 16 will be made up of mostly Chinese players in the next 10 - 20 years; lets see what happens!

Also, fair play to Ken for starting his snooker academy!

Great idea Rounders and Daddio, I'd love to share a few stories here !!

Here's a quick one, 1997 and Ken Doherty wins the World Championship beating Hendry 18-12.
Back in the dressing room after the match as Ken was giving his urine sample I got to hold the famous old trophy, I was shocked!!
The thin piece that joins the base to the top of the trophy was broken and the trophy was bearly joined together!
I think Hendry was so confident of retaining the trophy that year that he never got it repaired, any way for the rest of the night when you were holding it you had to use two hands, basically so it wouldn't snap.
The old trophy comes with a big box and there it stayed on our drive down to London the next day, we stayed overnight got the flight back to Dublin the next day to the heroes welcome Ken richly deserved, after that night celebrations the cup had almost had it, so we rushed it in to Irish Rubies in Marlborough St and a great silversmith and jeweller Aidan repaired the famous old trophy.
For the next twelve months it took pride of place on top of the television in Ken's mums house in Ranelagh!!
