damaged shoulder on heffier

I have a yr old heffier here with a sliped shoulder. i remember an old man coming to our farm before, used a handpump a blade and a sring on a bull we had before. i think he made two incesions and possibally a third for the needle of the pump around the hip, anybody know anything about this???

Yeah, I often saw that done, it was a very popular folk remedy in the west. There was another variant with horse shoe nails & string

However we now know that 'slipped shoulder' is radial nerve paralysis, usually caused when bulling heifers dismount awkwardly, and their foreleg gets pulled out to the side at an unnatural angle.

Current understanding is that it should be left alone to heal (if that's what it is - 90% of lameness is in the foot).

If the damage is not too severe, it will improve in a week, and be better in a fortnight. Exactly the same as when quacks used to pump air under the skin to cure it!
