Every parent's worst nightmare: how ketamine killed our daughter

"The girls watched TV for a while and then Louise's friend went to bed. Louise was tired too but didn't think she'd be able to sleep, maybe because of taking the drug but also because she had things on her mind. She had given up her job [as a visual merchandiser for the fashion chain New Look] before going to Australia and she knew she had to find another one because she had bills to pay. She'd been worrying about that. So she said she was going to take a bath to help her relax. About an hour later her friend woke up and realised straight away that something was wrong. She just had a feeling. She went into the bathroom and found her. She had fallen asleep in the bath and drowned."

I think falling asleep in the bath killed her.

Man goes for a swim after drinking strong alcohol, drowns.
    What killed him.
    Stupidity, not the alcohol.

Where's the "water in her lungs" option?

If she was on ket at the time then there is a big possibility that ket was th reason she fell asleep/unconcious in the bath. Mad drug.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,474 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

well does give the factors which may be relevant
And, crucially, in relation to Louise's case, if the drug is taken with other depressant drugs such as alcohol, even a small amount can dangerously suppress breathing and heart function and can lead to unconsciousness.

usually if you can't breath you'd wake up?

If she'd knocked back a bottle of grey goose then fallen asleep in a bath this would t have made the news

Imagine if every time some one died by Mossad entire after taking alcohol thag their loved ones went on a national press spree warning off the dangers of beer and chip pans or or alcopops and crossing a bush road

    The whole thing is nonsense

Btw the answer is death by misadventure cause of death drowning after taking tranquilisers

...the horse tranquilliser that is currently the "party drug" of choice among young people across the UK.

Not in this case.. She said she was going to have a bath to relax. Sounds like this was after the drug had worn off and now the parents are looking for anything but their daughter to blame.

If I fell asleep in the bath with a scag on me, I'd be mortified if it was over the news..

Its amazing the level of clueless shyte Journalists come out with regarding drugs given that their profession is not exactly renowned for being squeaky clean when it comes to such things.

Well we clearly don't know all the facts. She could have been on it at the time which makes it more likely that ket would have made her unconscious causing her to drown. Or she could have just been "scagging" and got sleepy. Ket does make you very sleepy though. It's very nit picky though, ket probably had something to do with her death but the water was what caused her death. Lets be honest you are more likely to drown in the bath if you were on ket/had been on ket.

Would the normal reaction to falling asleep in a bath be to wake up when water starts going down in to your lungs? Having never done it I don't know.

I imagine then that Ketamine played a part in keeping her asleep but in the end it was stupidity that killed her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,280 ✭✭✭✭Eric Cartman

stupid b*tch , her parents are just trying to blame anyone except their daughter, still though , drugs - keeping natural selection alive since the dawn of time.

So what? Ket didn't kill her.. If I work an 100 hour week and fall asleep in the bath out of exhaustion, should we blame work?

we don't know how much she had or how long before her bath she'd taken it. Those would be two defining pieces of evidence here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,835 ✭✭✭unreggd

Jaysis, everyones jumping to defend the drug, as expected

Like was mentioned above, I dont think anyone could fall into a natural sleep and drown

Your body would immediately shock and wake you up

Unless, you took drugs that had you unconcious

So IMO the blame is on the drug

Who is? I see warnings against it actually.
Blaming the person who took it rather than the drug itself is not = defending the drug.

It's still a horrible tragedy though and she doesn't deserve to be called a "stupid bitch".

    Very true.
We can have opinions all right and thats ok.
Me? I honestly don't have a clue and in such hurting sensitive cases, I usually take the option to keep my own thoughts to myself (a) because I might end up looking like an idiot for being wrong eventually (wouldn't be the first time) and (b) just in case my useless ramblings on such matters, might cause some hurt to those already in grief/pain.

    ...But thats just me. :)

Ketamine is a great drug for coming down off a load of pills...can't beat sinking into a K hole after a hard session...

That's all I have to say on the matter...

Ketamine is actually used on humans as an anasthetic, i don't know why people think its so bad. Just because people heard it as being called "Horse Tranquilizer" they think its for knocking out horses only. You don't think people are actually taking egg yokes at the weekend, do you ?

In fairness, it's pretty damn harsh on the bladder.

I agree that consistently referring to the drug as a horse tranquiliser is blatant scare tactics on the media's part, though.

I don't have a clue! No one can be sure, maybe if she done it she may have just fallen into unconsciousness on the couch and then woken up later that day, but since she fell in to unconsciousness in the bath she died! I'm not a Joe Duffy lovin' aul bag but I'm guessing (that's all I can do) that ket contributed to, but was not the cause of her death. To get technical, water was the cause of her death, ket contributed. In my opinion.
