Thought it'd be a good idea for a thread to put horses up you're excited about seeing this year and see how they get on come the end of it.

Flying Cross:Very lightly raced and went to John Gosden from AOB after being third in the Irish Leger. Immaculately bred and one for this year I think, can be a GR.1 winner.

Dream Ahead:Joint highest rated horse with Frankel and a dual group 1 winner. Is being forgotten about I think in the Guineas market after his defeat in the Dewhurst and I'm on at 20/1.

That's all for the minute but feel free to add some. I'm tired and cranky.

Seville: Finished the season 2nd in the Racing Post Trophy. Entered in the Dante as a stepping stone towards the Derby. Looks a very nice prospect.

Date With Destiny: Gorgeous Georges one and only offspring. Has shown a modicum of talent and is entered in the Oaks (which is probably asking a bit much) Interest has more to do with her sire rather than anything she has done to date.

Masked Marvel: Ante-post Derby selection. Disappointed on 2nd run after good maiden win. John Gosden trains and starts in the Dante.

Also cant wait to see how St Nic, FAG, Cape Blanco, Canford Cliffs, Casamento & Pathfork get on.

So You Think: Australian wonder horse who was 2nd in the Melbourne Cup, now with A P O'B. Might start off in the Lockinge but expect him to be fully wound up for probably the Price Of Wales Stakes at Ascot. If he follows in Haradasun & Starspangledbanner's footsteps he'll be another ex-Aussie Ballydoyle winner at that meeting!

Seta: Was still a bit babyish at the start of her 3yo campaign, got her confidence back in a series of Listed wins before a disappointing enough run in the G1 Sun Chariot stakes at the back end of last season. Expect her to have done really well from 3-4!

Roderic O'Connor: Cracking run in the Dewhurst after winning a decent Curragh maiden. Went on to G1 glory in France despite hanging right in the home straight. Expect him to put it up to Frankel at Newmarket.

Waffle: Bit of a short term one here but watch out for his next run, got badly interfered with at Doncaster the last day (De Sousa didn't cover himself in glory either) but came rattling home to finish 2nd, defo one to watch out for the next day.

Spensely: James Fanshawe trained handicapper who ran up 3 wins at Kempton in September/October 2010, beating Modun (who won easy on Saturday) in the process. Might just be better than a handicapper, likes to come late and fast as seen here http://horses.sportinglife.com/Video/Racing/0,27770,397988,00.html

Misty For Me: Dual G1 winning 2yo filly, expect to see her winning the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket. May be at her best over 10f tho for the Pretty Polly and Nassau Stakes

A couple that may not be world beaters but will be winning races this season

Afsare Gave Wigmore Hall a good beating last year and looked promising considering what Wigmore Hall has done since i'll definightly be looking out for this Luca Cumani horse. Entered in Group 3 @ Sandown on Saturday

Bated Breath looked promising last year and looked unlucky on first start this year never really getting a run stopped numerous times. Held in high regard by connections could be winning some races.

Horseradish Won already this year but as consistent as they come and could be getting another couple of wins this season.

Canford Cliffs One of my favourite horses in training remember him winning the Coventry at Ascot like it was yesterday. Brilliant performances last year and if he's trained on again he could be near unbeatable over a mile

One I was looking for and forgot his name.

Await the Dawn:Totally unexposed 4 year old and has only had 4 runs to date, his only defeat came in the Champagne Stakes at Donny back in 09. Got himself a rating of 120 after winning a group 3 in great style at the back end of last season. Non runner for the Champion Stakes at the back end of last season but should have a group 1 in him this year.

Just reading that Snow Fairy & Workforce are in training for the new season.

Canford Cliffs, Dick Turpin, Cape Blanco, FAG, Midas Touch, Goldikova, St Nicholas Abbey are all also confirmed as being back this year.

Its great for the flat to have its star horses returning for more than a 3 year old career. Fair play to all the owners & trainers concerned.

Masked Marvel runs in the trial this sunday at Sandown Higgins.

I think Jan Vermeer kept in training too.

    Dick Turpin won well today.

I wonder how much this run will stand to him against Canford Cliffs who won't be turned out before the Lockinge Stakes.

I read that Midday is being kept in training too. She'll be going for the Middleton stakes. Great to see some fantastic older horses being kept on.

I'd love to see Pathfork win. VC took a bet of 550,000 pounds on Frankel!

Aidan O'Brien is really starting to warm up. Having great week at Chester and St. Nic to come tomorrow.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Await the Dawn did it nicely yesterday. Probably for group 1 races now.

    welcome back St. Nic!!

I've him ante post for the Arc. Needed that.

O'Brien looks to have a serious bunch of 1m4f older horses. St. Nicholas Abbey, Await the Dawn, So You Think & Cape Blanco.

Workforce will have his work cut out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Think Cape Blanco could well prove the weakest of them. Beaten twice already this season, not the ideal start. I wonder did they think the same, selling a large stake in him.

    What was his 2nd run?

I that his 4th in the Dubai World Cup was an encouraging seasonal debut

Forth behind Planteur last week at Longchamp.

Passion for Gold runs in the conditions race at Lingfield tomorrow,a horse I'd been wondering what happened to.

Third in the Beresford behind St Nic Abbey before winning a group 1 in France by 6 lengths. Could be a top 4 year old.

Interesting Fallon picks up some rides for Ballydoyle tommorrow. A nice Giant's Causeway colt in a maiden and Recital in the derby trial.

Cost 800,000 dollars I see that colt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,775 ✭✭✭✭kfallon

Oh yes I've renewed links with Ballydoyle, just have to tell Ed Dunlop now he can stick his Native Khan for the Derby, they jocked me off last season so I owe them nothing!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

Are you on about the Racing Post Trophy? Didn't he have the choice between Meehan's and Native Khan?

thanks, no info on it on Irishracing or ATR.com

Thats a disappoint enough effort from him to be fair. Planteur has started the season in good form.

Did anyone see the French Guineas today? The cameraman needs to be let go.

Nice performance from St. Nic today. Looked in trouble for long while but did it well enough in the end. King George bound now.

Hope you have seen the doctor about it

I took Galikova at 28's also - that ones a punt but if she is entered and as good as I think she can be she should be competitive.

I've heard of her but haven't actually seen her race.
    Big future?

Very interesting, possibly a big future. I am not sticking my neck out saying she is the next superfilly but visually looks quite good.

I picked her up in the Marcel Boussac, she was held up and I get the impression she did not fancy the ground and was green, but she fairly picked up albeit too late to pick off the winner, but I noted the turn of foot:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TV94dybGcNo

She quickened away nicely in this race and to my eye looked like she was not properly asked to go:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1J-ebP1PI0

She is entered in the Prix Diane (Sunday 12th June) which is a decent Arc prep, Zarkava took this route.

Given my suspicions about her top gear, she is a daughter of Gallileo and she looks like she is being aimed at the Arc I decided to back her.

A horse to look out for next time is El Diamante from the Richard Hannon stable. Ran yesterday and will definitely be winning races by the end of the season Richard Hughes was just nudging along and not doing much in the saddle but the horse picked up very well in last furlong without being real;ly encouraged too much and i'd be suprised if this horse doesn't win next time out

Review on the race said this:
slowly into stride, behind, headway over 1f out, ran on well for hand riding inside final furlong, going on close home, should do better;)

Great shout, looked to be travelling VERY easy within the last 1f. :)

Well fluich that. Threw €50 on Gallikova for the Prix Diane, did not realise the French Oaks (Diane) was only 1m 2f, lazy French baxtards.

She picked up very well in the last 100 yards and looks to need the Arc trip.

Ya,the colts race is the same. They're not actually called the French Oaks or Derby you see

I know that but I figured as they the Diane is effectively the Oaks and the Jockey Club is effectively the Derby that the distance would be the same, not a big fan of the flat, rarely bet on it and mistakes like that discourage me further!!

Oh, I meant, I meant..If my aunt had bollox she would be my uncle.

I said I dont really follow the flat, and you are in a horses to follow section so I am following the horse. Read my posts instead of riding in here on your pedantic horse.

For your infomation I am only watching racing 4 years and never heard of the change in the diane and jockey distances. National hunt is my passion, I watch the classics on the flat and if I spot an improving type early in the flat season i back it. I have had much bigger bets on Zarkava and Sea The Stars in previous years, earlier than now as I thought they were worth following.

I already admitted i made a balls of it, i still stand by my horse to follow and the bookies have put her in at 16/1 and betfair 20 from 28. I am clearly not alone thinking she will get 1m4 very well. After payday I will be having more on her for the arc and any 1m4 race in between (and this time check it isnt one of those fake 1m4 races!!)

So Ziggy who is your one to follow.

I am pretty sure the distances were changed in 2005 (the year Hurricane Run was second in it) so for the 4 years you were watching racing both races were 1m 2f!

Anyway good luck with your Arc bet, she defo needs 1m 4f!

Maybe they were but that is the first one of them I have seen.

Cheers mate, I reckon she will have a big chance, the way she gets going so late she reminds me of Conduit, hopefully goes one better than him in the Arc.

He hasn't run yet so don't know how you backed him unless you've backed him ante post for either of those races. There was a thread i'm sure set up by UrbanSea on the horse Born To Sea i'm sure it can be found a couple of pages down. The John Oxx stable really hitting top gear now think i'll be backing his over the next couple of weeks. If you are talking about Oxx's horse in the first tonight Sharestan well he did win quite nicely and definitely one to keep an eye on especially with a longer trip looking like suiting

In the UK a stable hitting some decent form too now is Jim Goldie not great races there running in but there doing there job also Brian Ellison on a decent run too looking on the last couple of weeks results
