    how old is it ?

batteries wear out , 1000 charges is the absolute maximum across all technologies - 300 might be more realistic in the real world

maximum battery life (ie keeping 100% capability for the longest time) is met by keeping the battery charged at 40% in a ziplock bag in a fridge. Anything else shortens the battery life faster, heat shortens the life, using it shortens the life. Overcharging - this depends on the brand and charging algorithm , I had a tosh in daily use for 5 years before I lost half the capacity , netbook lost it's capacity in a fraction of that time :(

DO NOT go through recalibration - all this does is set 100% to the current battery capacity.

% don't mean an awful lot unless you can compare to what it should be
if you have linux or manu's apps then you can see the actual capacity in mAh ( note some may be above the design capacity - also lots of fake batteries on ebay / cheap sites )

    acpi -i -b
    Battery 0: Full, 100%
Battery 0: design capacity 4800 mAh, last full capacity 4656 mAh = 97%
