    Hey guys,

    Total 4x4 newbie here!

    I'm seriously considering purchasing a 2006 Toyota Landcruiser 3L D4D.

However a mechanic aquaintance of mine has told me it will totally rob me keeping it in fuel, and that I will never get a sale for it if I decide to sell it on at a later date?

I need to know if this is true?

Sorry for being such an innocent on the subject!!! All advice greatly welcome. Thanks!

have a 04 myself, i don't ever worry about the resale value because i reckon i'll never sell it... :D
I think they're great machines, wouldn't have a bad thing to say about them. That said, a 3L engine is always going to be a bit thirsty, and will seem even more so if your coming from something like a 1.4 or 1.6 small car.... Mine makes an average of 31mpg, more on motorways, less in traffic/urban in general driving.
If your going to be doing mainly city driving or have a heavy foot then your definatly going to get to know the forecourt guys on a first name basis, but any 4x4 will punish you on those counts.
Servicing and parts are not the worst, and again you've always got options, main dealer vs local mechanic etc.
They also have a great reputation for being reliable for a reason.
I guess the only thing to think about is whether or not you have the need for one or if theres a specific purpose your buying it for where something else might hold an edge, but thats doesn't sound like the case from your post...other than that if there's any specifics your worried/wondering about sure ask away and best of luck:)

Buy , Buy Buy .... I was in the same position as you a little while ago .. I got rid of a VW passat which was very good on fuel and went to the LC. I am very happy with it - The auto believe it or not returns better mpg than the manual and its a very nice drive.

There is a few lc4's still about that you can pick up for decent money.
But again Ive had it for 2 months now and even with the high cost of fuel wont be going back to a car unless I need the seats in the back.

Hope it helps - PS make sure the injector recall is done if you go for the LC.
