I don't buy them myself but I always see people buying them in the shops and I never hear of anyone winning big on them except for winning streak of piss.

They have to be the biggest scam ever.

Won 20 about ten years ago, twas in pounds though so it's probably about a grand when you take the economy and euro into account.

Sent in a few 3 stars to Winning Steak, never picked

from working in a shop I can tell it is extremely rare for people to win more than €2. The most I have ever seen was €50 on a €1 all cash.

On average I would say people win more on the lotto. I had a guy last year who plays that game 54321 and he won €500 using the same numbers 3 times last year

Nope, I don't buy them often but tend to always break even or make a little when I do.

When I was young my old next door neighbour, who my mother forced me to go in and visit, regularly sent me up to the shops to buy around £30 worth of scratch cards and never remember her winning anything much either.

Ah the good old days when shop keepers would sell an 8 year old scratch cards (and snuff for that matter!) without batting an eyelid.

My mother won 500 Euro two weeks ago. It was a work syndicate scratch-card though.

I won a couple of €25s and one €50, back in the days of the celtic tiger.

It's been a long time since I've won more than €4 though - what with the recession, and all.

A ex-colleague of mine won €1,000. Wouldn't have believed it but I was there at the time. In a tiny shop somewhere East of Athlone a couple of years back before the motorway opened. Auld biddy behind the counter nearly had a heart attack when he asked to cash it!

    I won €30 once.

A woman I know (by name, not just a friend of a friend) won something like 200 grand on a scratch card someone gave her when she was in hospital last year.

Why do these scratch card threads always start with " I dont buy them myself but..."????

Yeah right, ya great big gambler ya :D.

Scratch cards are an idiot tax. Rare few win decent money on them and people buy them without even thinking they are gambling.

I won €100 about 3 years ago. Was standing in the middle of Tesco and I realized but didn't believe it so I called my mam who was in another shop to come and confirm. I was afraid to leave in case someone had spotted me and knew I had won. I know it wasn't a lot of money but I was completely broke at the time so it was a big deal to me!

    I won €8 a couple of weeks ago. :D
It was on a card that I was given at work. I will sometimes get a couple in a birthday/Christmas card but I'd never actually BUY a scratchcard because it's such a scam and waste of money- although if I won €2 I might just 'trade it' for another card.

Even though I know the chance is about a billion to one, I do always have that moment of anticipation where I think this might be the day that I'll win five/ten thousand. :o

I won €10 on a winning streak this evening, last week it was €6 so i'm doing ok, now just to win the euro millions :D

Slightly OT but a fella I know won 5k on one of those competitions Rowntrees were running in their packets of fruit pastilles. He opened the pack in school and just disappeared for the day, the bastard!

Most I ever won was about a tenner.
An aunt of mine wins on them all the time though, usually around 25 or 50 each time! She's really jammy.
Although her real luck comes through doing the lotto in the bookies. She does 2 or 3 numbers and usually wins a couple of hundred every few weeks!

Neighbour won 15, 000 on a 3 euro scratch card the other day!

But from working on a shop, most I've seen is 320 euro, 25s are a regular enough occurance though!

Have patience, you have to win it one euro at a time.

i won €50 recently on one, and my mother won €60000 on the winning streak programme 5 years ago.

Won €25 a few times, and I won the hamper from the 'hampers and roses' cards twice (2 years running)..........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,153 ✭✭✭jimbobaloobob

Was the hamper worth more than a €5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,294 ✭✭✭rainbowdrop

It was quite a good hamper to be fair. Can't remember exactly what was in it, ut there was Christmas cake, pudding, mince pies, tinned fruit, wine, brandy, tin biscuits etc. Also, there was a €200 (I think) voucher for Dunnes included 'to buy the turkey and ham and veg', cos they can't be included as they are fresh. Everything you would need for your Christmas dinner in them!!

I know a fella that won £200,000 on a scratchcard, his wife wanted a divorce until she found out about the win, now she's pressuring him for half the money.
In other news, Jim MacDonald got locked up for trying to rob a bank...
