Help Value My Car (BMW Compact)

It's time for a change, so I need to move my 2004 316ti msport along. I know its ugly but I liked it.:o

After finding a good sample of the car I want to change to, asking the dealer for my cost to change, discount etc, turns out he is only going to take €4.5k of the listed price of €20k . That is valueing the BMW at some where less than €4.5k:eek:.

Looking on Adverts.ie, Carzone, Donedeal etc I see the 2004 316ti is advertised for somewhere between €9k and €4k. The thing is none have the same spec has mine. Even the VRT calculation tool online does not list the OMSP of the Msport 316ti just the SE (€7k).

    The details are as follows:

    BMW 316ti Msport 1.8l Petrol
    Milage: 73k,
Metalic Silver, heated sport seats, e/c sunroof + front/rear windowsm, 17" msport alloys.
    Pics here: http://www.adverts.ie/car/3-series/3-series/bmw-316ti-msport-for-sale/549145

Any advise on pricing is much appreciated.

    Thanks

If hes offering 4.5 against list price then youre getting a lot less.

See how much off he will give you for cash.

Then you will know how much is really on offer.

not sure where to value it but i would tell the dealer to f*ck right off offering you only €4.5k. That is insulting.

As the saying goes OP. It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I'd go for the private sale and see if you can get closer to what your looking for. You'll know after a week or so if there's any interest and if there's not then this might be the reason the dealer is offering so little.

As you said yourself, it's an ugly car :p

My missus has an 03 one with an amazing spec on it - almost identical to yours with 10k less mileage - and couldn't get EUR4.5K for it, so I reckon the trade in is realistic enough.

I think your price on adverts is a bit high tbh.

You can get 04 318i saloons now for about 5/6K, and no offence, but these are a lot more desirable than a 316ti.

Compacts are not that desireable in this country, irrespective of the spec. I just cannot see anyone paying close to €8k for a 7 year old one.

€8k would something like below which is a year younger and easier to sell to be honest:

Stonking looking car that. If it was a 320d they'd be looking closer to 8000-8500. Which is crazy.

BTW - for what its worth, I'd take a compact over a saloon all day long, lots of fun to drive. Very chuckable.

I dont think shifting that car will be in any way easy, unless its for a very low price. Maybe its worth hanging onto?

Realistically to shift it i think 5-6K is where youd be aiming. Otherwise your not going to move it. The market is quite tough in BM's at the moment as there are loads on offer. Price it right and it will go very soon. but make sure you out it up on all the websites.

On a plus side the ad is good and pictures are great.

I agree - even though it is a very high spec car (especially for a compact - these are usually ultra low spec poverty spec Paddy spec) and therefore much more desirable than most compacts, it's still a compact and they're quite an undesirable car secondhand.

They're not worth 8k in a month of Sundays - 4.5k is a realistic enough trade-in price for one.
