Ebara wastewater pump problems

I have a puraflow sewage system and I had a new pump installed two years ago when the old one packed up. I don't want to call in Bord na Mona this time as they charged me €500 for a service visit two years ago when they replaced the pump.

Last week I heard a rattle from the submerged Ebara pump and so I took it out of the pump chamber and spent an hour cleaning small pebbles out of it. I tested it by filling my wheelbarrow with fresh water and turning on the pump. It sucked the water out of the barrow in no time and the noisy rattle was gone.

I reattached the pump to its metal holder. Before I re-inserted it back into the pump chamber, I shortened the metal holder by one notch to raise the pump by about 6 inches to keep it off the bottom of the pump chamber and therefore it would be less likely to suck up more pebbles. However, it is now coming on quite regularly compared to before. It also appears to be taking longer to empty the wastewater out of the pump chamber. While its still "doing its job", i.e. pumping the wastewater away to the puraflow mound, I'm stumped why its going on and off so often and taking longer to pump out the chamber.

    Any ideas?

did you move a float switch or something?

also if you sited the pump higher is it possible the inlet is not fully submerged when i comes on?
