    Hi,

What colour did you all paint your ceilings and do you have any recommendations.

Should they all be painted white or off white or cream or set to match the colour of the room.

    Thanks

usually the ceiling is painted white or off white to make the ceiling appear higher. painting it the same colour as the walls or a darker colour will have the effect of appearing to lower the ceiling and the net result of that is the room appearing smaller.

Depends on the height of your ceiling and the colour you are putting on the walls! Often a good idea to put a little of the wall paint into a white ceiling paint to get the tone to match and if you have coving to paint that in the brilliant white...

I didn't really want to go with a stark white so the off white idea or mixing some of the wall colour is a good idea.

Would a general darker creamy colour be a risk as it may not suit a variety of wall colours. If i was going to paint all ceilings the same would an off white be the bast choice.

For the sitting room i might mix some of the choosen wall colour in with it.

Unless they are very high ceilings avoid a creamy colour and even an off white can look dirty if it doesnt work with the walls! If you want the same paint on all ceilings then choose brilliant white.

I'm really showing my ignorance now but would the trade paint i used as an undercoat do, it was a supermatt?

I would like a decent finish so if its not recommended i'll gladly go out and buy whats right for the job.

Again hard to answer without seeing the job but make sure you prepare the ceilings (and walls!!) before painting if you want the right finish!Fill and sand!!! An inexpensive undercoat is fine if you're using a quality paint! Quality of paint depends on resins and pigments and like most things you get what you pay for! Would usually use a matt emulsion and best brands are Zoffany, Colourtrend, little green etc. Not a fan of mass produced paints sorry...
