Half my tooth just fell out

Half of one of my lower molars just cracked and fell out. I'm not in any pain, it's just very sharp. Is it essential that I get the rest of the tooth removed to prevent infection? Or might it be okay to leave it? What options do I have?

I'd appreciate any advice as I had a bad experience with the last dentist I went to.

    Get it seen to asap!

Same thing happend to me, haddent been to the dentist for over 10 years and just kept putting it off because I was dreading it.

He gave me a root canal first to try and save it, would have had a crown after that but he said it was too badly damaged and that it would have to be removed.

Had it removed at a later session. And some fillings at the same time.

In all honesty it wasn't as unpleasant as I thought it was going to be, At one point there was a little pain from the heat of the drill so he promptly gave me more of the anesthetic.

The worst part of it all was the fillings. I was terrified of getting root canal and extraction but they were pretty harmless.

Have to go back in 6 months to fill the gap. Thats the worst bit cause its very expensive!
