whats your present tires size? budget or premium ones? any special requirements in terms of sporty/off road/noise/handling..?

Just don't go for chinese and serbian-bulgarian crapy "plastic" and dangerous ones and you'll be fine, and alive.

Well he is a superhero so anything is possible.

OP, what size tyres are you looking at? Hankook are a good middle of the range budget tyre whereas Mitchelin are a premium brand tyre. There is quite a difference in price between the two.

Are you planning on buying online as its likely that your local tyre centre may not do what you want.

So true unfortunately. Amazing how bad options local shops are offering.. really sad what they re selling to majority of nation (one worker said 70% of their sale is very low budget tires) since tires are probably the most important part of a moving car, especially winter ones.

Try this website, only problem is that you'll need to get someone to fit them for you, cheaper than what you'll pay for them over here!!!

Tyre centres will stock what they can sell. In these economic times most people just want the cheapest piece of crap rubber available which is frightning. For a tyre centre it doesn't make business sense to stock premium tyres that there is little or no demand for. However most will order them in for you if their distriubutors have access to them.

Indeed, most of them are more than happy to order whatever you want once they can get them :)

i have mitchelin Energy E3A's tires on my car at present, which i found very good, from a dry and wet grip, good mileage, quiet and comfortable, and fuel economy point of view.

So im thinking of going for Mitchelin Energy's again, however the Mitchel Energy E3A is a summer tire, no good in snow and/or ice, how are the Mitchelin Energy A/S - all season tire compared to the E3A summer ones.....

and no i dont think id get E3A's for summer and a mitchelin Winter tire for winter, but i hear the Alpin A4 is a good winter tire, does it come in a energy tire, and how does it wear in the summer months , when it gets hot????????????

+1 on Uniroyal. Best tyre I ever had. Brilliant on wet and can even compete with winter tyres on snow (not on ice)

But i want mitchelin energy tires, i just need to pick which energy tire.....not considering any other brands at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

I can't see why you'll only consider one brand on an average car like a corolla

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18 small famer

its because i got them last time, and found them good, plus the save pertrol.

Where can you get the energy saver A/S? I can't find them anywhere in Ireland or the UK.

yeah thats what i want to find out too, im either going to go for the energy a/s or the alpin a4. the way i look at it is this, the energy a/s should hv everything the E3A has plus be better in wet weather / snow/ice.

but i like the option of someone who has had the energy a/s or the Alpin A4 first, then i can finally make up my mind, i think i saw a canadian or Us website that was selling tires, i will look again. but my problem right now is what tire i want, i will worry bout ordering it then.

I can only find the energy saver A/S on US websites. It is also not listed in Michelin European sites, so I don't think it's available at all in Europe, which means you will probably not find anyone that used them here.

Even if you can order them they may not have the CE mark required to be used here.

I did find the regular energy savers very good this winter though, even on snow and ice. The energy savers are supposed to have a high silica content in the the tread, which is also a characteristic of winter tyres. Maybe that is why I found them so good. I am now down to 6 and 5 mm tread after 24000 km, so it remains to be seen if they'll be as good this winter.

I am not sure, I suppose they are the regular summer ones that show in the Michelin UK website. They don't seem to have any of those marks on them anyway.

They came with the Renault grand megane I bought last year.

Thank christ for that, i thought everyone actually thought it was spelt with a T! OP I would just get whatever decent brand you can get at a good price for a corolla. In fairness its a standard fwd car you're not pushing out 200 horses through them or anything, or even half that probably :)

a winter tyre because it is softer compound will "not usually " last a long in summer conditions.. but think there has been cases of them lasting as long....but no evidence of this... summer tyres in winter will not stop you as fast as winter tyres so it depends on budget and what you want.... as for mich tyres... they are good, but so is conti, goodyear, bridgestones....

If its a good all round tyre you want and don't wanna spend a fortune, try Falken ZE912 tyres, good all round tyre, have a look @ http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Falken/ZE912.htm for a review
