I had an amazing tutor this year for English and I'd real like to commend him but I was just wondering is it the done thing or is it completely inappropriate?

    Much Love.

No harm I suppose? Everybody likes a bit of praise now and again!

    Go for it.
Email the department and Bcc the tutor on it.

    Bcc not Cc! Jesus wept...

If you don't Bcc the tutor then it'll probably be a complete waste of time.
Unless it's just because you have a crush on him, in which case a handjob would probably be more appreciated than an email.
If you're not going to Bcc the tutor then the sensible person to email is the lecturer who gave the course the tutor was tutoring in. Otherwise it'll just go to the secretary who won't give a toss either way.

    Hi there,
The best thing to do is email the Head of Discipline and their Administrative Assistant and cc the Tutor. These things matter to those that organise the courses and arrange the tutorials.

If I were a tutor, I'd secretly get the class to send these types of emails to the university administration people. Muhawhawhaw.
