Immigration and Emigration

I think its great that Ireland has suffered an economic calamity. It has meant that many of the small minded bigots complaining about the foreigners and 'blacks' are now either emigrating themselves to a foreign country (Thus becoming one of the hated 'foreigners) or see their children doing so. There is even some emigration to South Africa, a majority black country with a black government.

    I love irony.

On a more serious note, doesn't this display the innate stupidity of overly restricting migration to and from countries? When the economy is booming an influx of fresh labour helps meet demand and increases the wealth of the country, as these people pay tax and consume goods on our soil. When the economy recedes people emigrate in search of work. Its a two way cycle. Shouldn't it be in all of our interests to not impede the natural tendancy of human beings to seek out employment and provide a living to themselves and their families?
