    Hi

I have over the last week and a half been trying a low carb diet, and it was working but had a couple of slip ups and lost 7lbs put back up 3lbs!!!

Anyhow i wonder am i on the right track and in the instances where i can't make my own food are my snack choices so bad that there is a better alternative?

    Breakfast
2/3 eggs scrambled with 2 rashers or in omlette with asparagus/tomato and onion

    Snack at 11
2 desert spoons of homemade granola (honey no sugar)
    berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberrie)
a couple of dollops of natural greek yogurt

    Lunch
homemade chicken soup or salad with seeds, olive oil dressing and left over roast chicken/ salmon/ slice of ham etc

    Snack
    apple/ pear

sometimes when i get in from work i'd have a slice or 2 of parma ham and a tiny bit of parmesan and a few olives

    Dinner

meat/fish- steak, salmon, roast chicken, grilled chicken
butternut squash with pine nuts and bit of olive roasted
salad leaves with mozarrella and dressing

When i was stuck for food i got a flapjack with no sugar in it (it had some sort of syrup i think)
I also have to go to an indian restaurant this weekend i normally have lamb korma but is there a way i can do some damage limitation here?
Also i had a few beers

How bad is it do u think? If there is something i should leave out i will ( ok maybe not the beer)

BTW i'm female, 5ft 6'' and 11.5 stone ( up 2 stone over the last year due to injury and eating crap) but have a holiday now in 2 months and would like to drop some of this the full 2 stone would be great :D

How low carb re you looking to go? Oats, honey, syrups, apples(12gms sugar) and pears(apx 12gms sugar whereas the berries will be about 5gms sugar per 100gms) and beer are not low carb. You might give the idiot proof diet a read? will spell it all out for you and you will have it read in a day.

Alcohol wise - stick to spirits (vodka and tonic/diet sugar free mixer).

Again, all depends what you are setting as your cut off amount of carbs.Whats not low carb for one may be low carb for another. Thing to remember is is that if you do it perfectly all week and then have lots of carbs the weekend, you will be right back where you started as the big losses at the start are largely water.

EDIT: you do NOT have to go low carb to lose the weight though. eat at a consistent deficit (inc at the weekend) and you will lose the fat. Make sure the deficit is not too big. Sites like caloriecount.about.com and fitday are great for totting up cals but are also eye opening into how much we are actually eating compared to what we think we are eating

Think i might pick up that book so, thought my berries and fruit were ok! Well i don't know what i used to have in terms of grams of carbs, i used to eat about 2/4 slices of mc cambridges a day which isn't great or sometimes white bread. I never have too many potatoes but did eat a bit of pasta.

Should i cut out some of that fruit so? Do my 3 main meals sound reasonable?

nearly all of it is ok apart from what i pointed out - berries are grand and the lowest carb fruit. Pears and apples a little higher. Most foreign fruits and bananas will be the highest. Are you looking to go low carb or lower carb? Just some things to think about. If its not something you can keep (beers etc at the weekend), then instead of proper low carb maybe lower your carbs and make sure you are eating at a deficit?

reading a book on it will help and then you can decide if its for you or not.
