Did any see this programme on RTE 2 late last night - it was about boys around 13-14 y old who are trained for dancing in Afganistan, but they was hints that these boys are groomed as kinda slaves for sex - was kinda sick, there are a shortage of girls due to strict muslim practices in the country.

There were more than hints, they explicitly say that any boy who tries to run will be hunted down and killed. Every guy who was involved with these dancing boy parties stated with no shame that they liked to have sex with boys. These are the powerful elite who organise and propagate this, they obviously were so comfortable with their power that they had no problem with talking about it openly and allowing cameras to film these parties - even though it is illegal in the country. The police are to afraid to do anything about it and even the reporter had to leave the country at the end for fear of his life when he fell out with one of these men. Shocking stuff.

I watched this in pure disgust. One of those killed was a boy who had escaped and was then lured back to his home area, he was then raped and killed by a group which included a local policeman. I believe the policeman was arrested and convicted then freed about 3 months later. Absolutely vile stuff. The fact that on paper this is illegal is not entirely relevant as the reporter showed, it is blatantly tolerated to the point where he bought 50 or so dvd's within a few minutes walk from the main train station, openly sold in broad daylight.

What also surprised me was how in a Muslim country such as Afghanistan where women are forced to wear the hijab and remain in the home, that the open practice of watching and engaging in sexual acts with young boys is accepted as ok. How can they possibly justify this if they call themselves Muslims I really don't understand.

Apparently, though there is a fairly strict code of conduct regarding homosexuality in Islam (generally speaking "Don't do it!") there is also a fairly tight definition of homosexuality. "Men don't have sex with men. Boys are not yet men."

One may ask the similar "how can they justify this if they call themselves Christian" of a portion of the clergy in not too distant times past.

As an FYI, did you know that 'girl' meant young male in the English language until only a couple of centuries ago?

    NTM

Yes but the difference between these guys and what Catholics priests have done in the past is that it was done behind closed doors and systematically hidden from outside view. These guys openly talk about it on camera and seem to see absolutely nothing wrong with it. There are dvd's of dancing boy parties being sold openly in the street, something that is a million miles away from the hushed abuse of altar boys.

Grim. That phenomenon was touched upon in the book The Kite Runner - don't think any other book has made me as sad... :(

anyone know if these was the same program that was shown on channel 4 last year, if so it was bloody disturbing, especially the part where the camera crew were introduced to a man who claimed to be the uncle of one of the boys, who turned out to be a henceman of the "owner" of the boy
