flipping my stem

i was trying today to flip the stem on my roadbike to raise the handlebar (for comfort). i want to try out a more comfortable riding position

i loosened the top hex nut, and then the pinch hex nut (there is only one pinch nut on my stem, i know normally there are two

The stem easily rotates on the steerer bar (or whatever is the correct word for steerer bar)

But the stem wont come off the steerer bar

I then removed the hex nuts completely

I was hoping the stem would slide off easily, but it wont budge, upward movement is impossible

Whats the solution ? Lightly hitting it upward with a hammer, or using some oil ?

The bike is 8 years old, and the stem has never been removed, the bike is aluminium.

You need to take the top nut out, not just loosen it, and remove it and the top cap.
