Hi folks, I have a question on behalf of a friend and colleague whos in quite an unfortunate situation.

At our recent annual reviews he was hold in no uncertain terms the boss would like him to find a new job, preferrably in the next few weeks. This guy has been with the company for over 5 years and has a great record in all aspects apart from his time keeping. And even then its literally 5 - 10 mins maximum late every so often, really nothing more serious then that.

Obviously I dont want to give out too many details on a public forum but I can say its not the kind of job when you have to have to clock into a phone, pc etc at a certain time, and any time there has been any lates there genuinely has been zero negative knock on effects to any other part of the business. Every aspect of this guys work is always done to a highly professional standard and he has gotten plenty of feedback praising his work. The reason Im giving details on the lates as thats literally the only negative thing that could possibly be said about this guy.

Im just wondering what are his rights in this scenario legally? Can the company just tell him to find another job? Surely there has to be some law preventing that. There really is no serious enough issue to warrant firing this guy so it really does seem as if this the companies way of trying to let him go without paying any redundancy.

Any advice would be appreciated as I really feel strongly that this guy is being treated unfairly. Ive told him to get onto the citizens advice bureau but I thought this might be a good place to find some more specific details about what where he stands legally.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Read the charter, this reads like a blatant request for legal advice.
