    Hi girls!

Loooong time lurker. Would love ye're opinions on this. Have been recently seeing a new guy and want to take things on a notch if you know what I mean. I have been thinking about getting a brazilian..however I have never been waxed before at all!! I know it would be jumping in at the deep end and I should probably get something a little less sensitive done first but I dont have much time the way things are going!! So girls....am I mad to dive straight into Brazil?!

Hmmm... I can't see why it would be mad to be honest, but then I went from not waxing at all straight to getting regular Hollywood's with no in between! :pac: I don't think it's the kind of thing where you need to "build up" to going the whole hog; it's not going to be less painful because you've had an ordinary bikini wax once or twice before. Not significantly, anyway. If you're doing it because you want to and not because you feel pressured, then I'd say just go for it. Worst that happens is you find it too painful and decide not to bother again. Bet you won't look back though!

Just realised I focused a lot on the pain aspect there, and it's not that bad. I find strip wax a good bit less painful than the hot wax, but the hot wax seems to suit me better so I just suck it up. It's well worth it.

I've only ever had my legs waxed, tbh anything more sensitive than that and I'd have to question your sanity. Ow. :P

I think getting this done for the first time only a short time before you "step it up a notch" is a bad idea. Stick to whatever you usually do and experiment later on
If it goes wrong or you don't exfoliate properly, well...

Get whatever you feel comfortable with, Californian is not as full on as a Brazillian, would be nice to try that first, or just a regular bikini. The hot wax is great and not too painful, also certain times of the month you may be more sensitive. Some people take Nurofen beforehand too.

A bit off topic here but I remember when i did a beauticians course a few years ago the demonstrator was having a bit of difficulty getting someone in the class to volunteer for a bikini wax.........

Since as I'd never had it done before I volunteered. Little did I know that I've very little hair growth "down there" compared to normal ladies. The demonstrator was actually kinda giggling when I said that I'd never been waxed before there!!!:D

She did my little bit and then she got one of the other girls to try the bikini wax..............I nearly died when I saw her "ladybush".....Jaysus, she was like a Gorilla compared to me, no wonder the girls were laughing at me
I never realised that some womens nearly grow down onto their thighs:eek::D

For what it's worth I didn't find it painful at all:)

Edit: To clarify that it was understandable that the girls were laughing at me!!!

    Op

I had bikini waxes before, but went and got a brazillian done. It feels great, but you look really bald (obvious I know) - can be a bit daunting until you get used to it. You could always ask for a tight bikini at the front and /or undercarraige wax. That way you wont feel too naked but still have the benefits of a brazillian?

On the pain factor, I find eyebrow plucking more painful. There are a couple of 'deep breath' parts with the brazillian (guess!) but mostly its grand.

I personally wouldn't say your jumping in at the deep end. You could try having your bikini line done first, and then if that goes OK you could get the brazilian done.

I had my first bikini wax last year found it OK and not very painful, not long after I had my first hollywood wax and again didn't find it very painful. I just found a slight sting, nothing too bad.

As another poster pointed out, obviously as your bald after waxing (how bald you are depends on the wax you have obviously) and it can be daunting, I know I found it odd, but soon got used to it, and I haven't looked back since.

I would agree with bluewolf, because you've never been waxed down there before it might be better to stick to your normal hair removing method until after "taking it up a notch".

As for the pain, well everyone's pain threshold is different obviously, so while I don't find it too painful, I know of others who have cried after a bikini wax because they found it very painful.

I personally find eyebrow waxing/plucking to be more painful, I always have water running from my eyes when getting my brow's done.

If you do get a brazilian, I would recommend hot wax, it's the only wax I've ever had used on me. I got a patch test in another salon a few weeks ago and they used some white wax which hardened (not sure what it's called) and it was kinda sore when it was pulled off, however the hot wax wasn't sore.

    Good luck whatever you decide.

The hot white wax has tea tree in it. I found it less severe than the brown wax.

Why thank you girls!! I'm still confused but I think maybe a bikini to tidy things up and see how I handle that before moving on to barer pastures!!

As someone with more hair than most (gorilla has already been mentioned ) I would think very carefully and I would have other waxing done first. I'm also a beauty therapist so have seen it from both sides. Some people don't have much hair or very fine hair that doesn't put up a fight, some people (like myself) have a large amount and very thick and they don't wanna come out sometimes I can tell you! It works very well on a lot of people of course. And as someone else said this is perhaps not the time to experiment - it can be red for a long time afterwards and in some cases, and it shouldn't if done properly, but bruising can happen. It works for the majority and I very successfully have my underarms regularly waxed which others cringe at, but everytime I dread the bikini line being done. When I was training I took my unsuspecting sister, who's allergic to everything, into college to have a leg wax, she said it was like sunburn for days afterwards (not because of my technique but it just wasn't suitable for her skin). It's a great thing and as a hairy mammoth I can't live without it - but break yourself in gently!

Thanks Princess, great to get advice from someone in the profession, think I could be toward the gorilla end of the scale with very dark hair so this has made my mind up to stick with what I know for now!!

Actually, I find getting my legs done are actually a bit more sore than when I get my hollywood done!

OP - go get it done, ya won't regret it! However, I would ONLY RECOMMEND that you go get it done in Brazilia in Dublin - they are near Stephen's Green but they also have a place in Sandyford. Don't go anywhere else. They use lycon wax and it is way less painful than normal wax. They specialised in waxing the nether regions.

Expect to pay around €50 - €60 for it, any cheaper than that and you're probably going to some beautician who just does it as part of everything else a beautician would normally do. A brazilian / hollywood is really specialised, and you need to get the proper training to do it properly. Not trying to scare you, but you do hear horror stories of people getting it done in places that are not properly trained. I mean we're talking about your bits here - you wanna make sure they are in good hands, so to speak!!

Yes it will be sore when you get it done the first time and if you leave fairly big gaps between that visit and your next one, but it's not that sore. You don't need to take nurofen or anything before hand either, you're just getting waxed, not getting surgery! They recommend not to go the day or two before your period because apparently some women are more sensitive on those days.

    Good luck!
