Good areas to learn, industrial estates?

I have been teaching a friend how to drive around some car parks and industrial estates around Dublin 15 but unfortunately there seems to be a huge influx of idiot boy racers and what sometimes seems like stolen cars flying around - which unfortunately isn't doing his confidence any good when it comes to learning. Even to the extent where he doesn't want to go back out onto these roads.

We're just at the stage of learning how to change gears efficiently, adjusting the gears to the car speed etc so we need to do that for a little while before going onto busier roads.

Could anyone point me in the direction of a quiet industrial estate(anywhere in Dublin) that is as close to empty as possible for evening/late night driving lessons?

    Many thanks.

I'm still learning to drive and I found it a good confidence builder to practice gear changes and clutch control in a carpark to begin with. The place I went most often was the Lords Walk car park in the Phoenix Park. If you enter the Phoenix Park at the Parkgate St entrance and drive straight, then take the first right once you pass the Zoo. It wasn't too busy, but you'd want to check the closing times for it.

    Hope it helps.

Yeah, were going down to the big car park in Blanch centre all last week but on the Friday night a few cars without their lights on came in and started rallying around - it naturally shook him up a little.

So we moved to an industrial estate at the back of Blanchardstown but again there were idiots flying around there. There's not much else we can do in another car park to be honest.

I was ideally looking for a wee quiet industrial estate somewhere so we can navigate corners and maybe some roundabouts while working on gear changing. I'm not from Dublin originally so its a little harder to find places.

I did all my Artic and Bus lessons for the Finglus test centre and they used the Dublin Ind Est for lessons. Once it went 17:00 it was quite.

    Avoid lessons on weekend nights!

With all the ghost estates around it should be possible for the authorities to set up a limited access road network for learner drivers and their accompanied drivers to go to and learn in. Also while they are at it they could give advice and probably have a kiosk there to sell copies of driver related books, leaflets etc and probably give advice on care related tax etc...

I bet such early intervention would prevent a lot of the accidents happening due to total lack of proper training in this country.
