    Hey green ink,

I did NZ on my own for three weeks a few years ago, had a great time.

You could look at doing an organised bus trip to do a bit of touring around between games, I used this crowd: http://www.magicbus.co.nz/ and found it a really good way to meet people; as well as transport, it includes tourist stops, activities and shared accomodation. Then, when you get back to Auckland, you have ready made mates to go on the beer with!
There are other operators out there as well, their names escape me now though.

There'll be loads of people on their own or in small groups, so you just need to put yourself in a position to meet them (e.g. stay in hostels rather than hotels) and you'll be sorted.

    heh Green Ink,
My main tip would be make sure and get out of Auckland for your three weeks and do not base yourself there. Its fine for a few days but thats it. Places like Rotoura and Taupo would be an ideal base for the three weeks for Ireland's matchs on the North Island.
The previous comment about the Magicbus is very accurate and you will def meet plently of people but you will also miss out on a lot of really worthwhile spots it does not visit (NZ is not all about the high profile tourist spots but also the lesser known scenic areas and activities). If you don't have plan to hire a car or campervan I'd get around with local bus companies.
Also make sure and get your accomodation booked for each of the match weekends soon as it is scarce. Hostels are very high quality in NZ and great for meeting people too (no doubt full of Irish on those weekends). Try a website called BBH for booking hostels or if you struggle in Auckland try emailing Verandahs or City Garden Lodge.

...You are a legend!! Thanks for that, I haven't heard of magicbus but will definitely look them up, been planning this for 15 months now...but alas can't plan to meet random strangers to hang out with!! I'm staying in a motel as opposed to a hotel and it's 20 minutes from Eden Park..thought it wouldn't be too far to carry the Webb Ellis cup back:rolleyes: (we can dream I suppose) so I am hoping I will just mingle into a friendly looking crowd..and SMILE:D:D:D maybe they will take pity on me! I'm Irish.... have the gift of the gab so I should be sorted...
    Thanks again :)

Thanks Jack, have accommodation booked 15 months now, even then the prices got way too silly, I was lucky with where I am. Will dip in and out of Auckland way too far to go and not travel around and the more off the beaten track the better for me! Tried the City Garden Lodge and they were booked out for world cup since the last year! You are right about the hostels, first class and I have stayed in many across the world but by all accounts they offer a lot...even free friends!!! Thanks :)
