No answers? ok I have some general purpose grease at home, that'll have to do.

I'd use carbon assembly paste myself, but it's cos I have it to hand

My unqualified answer is "it depends".

Check whether your seat tube has a metal shim inside. If it does, the interface is metal-metal not metal-carbon, which would possibly change the grease choice.

For metal-carbon it doesn't really matter. From what I've read, CRP is chemically very stable, so your choices come down to how much grip vs slip you want.

I think I've used carbon assembly paste too.

Cheers lads...I'm trying to stop a creaking noise which im sure is coming from the seatpost. There's no metal insert so its definitly alu to carbon.

Some manufacturers say under no circumstances use grease on carbon, other people will say it doesn't matter. Personally I would use carbon assembly paste. I have an alloy seatpost on my carbon MTB; I think the original post was ungreased though.

I think mine was ungreased also. My own feeling is that ungreased is fine when frame and seatpost are new, but after 4 years, the alu has started to corrode ever so slightly. This is whats causing the creaking noise (the build up of very fine alu dust inside the frame).

    Thanks for the recommendations.

Cancel your card, and tell CRC that it was because they made you nervous of it, and see if you get a voucher anyway :)
