Marry an American, win the green card lottery or find out you actually have the right to an US passport due to your parents (i.e. very unlikely).

Can I not get a working visa or something?

Contact the US Embassy in Dublin and ask the question. With job availability so poor world wide, a working visa may be a problem. There's always a student visa option if qualified.

    Life there's a beach though...

Work visas require that the company that hire you to prove that there is no one in US that can do your job and pay a couple of grand for it; hence to move over to "fix computers" is not likely to be very successful to quality as a specialized skill.

Short of lucking out in a green card lottery you're not likely to get a visa to legally work in the US doing that kind of work.

Ass:/ I just thought because all my friends are moving to Australia with no qualifications :/

There's not a hope of you getting a visa to 'fix computers'

    Unless:

-you are a graduate of the last 12 months, in which case you may be able to get a 12 month visa (I think)

    - you are a student and can get a J1 visa for a summer

To be honest it's a rich state, people probably throw out broken computers and buy new ones, and old ones are probably sent to mexico/china

Unless they marry an aussie they wont last very long there either, their WHV and thats it. US is so much harder visa wise than Oz. Where do you hear people emigrating to...australia, canada, other parts of europe, not America, did you ever think why?

If all your friends are in australia why not go there?

You dont just wana go over and hope to get a job, go for a 3 month trip look for work then tell the employer your comming over for a year or so..

Cali is a hard place to get work was over there last year on a J1 couldn't get work any where give it bar's restaurants, clothes shops, etc...etc...

To get a 12 month visa for the states is pretty damn hard also, plus its alot of money..

Better of going to Canada its easier to get into, cheaper to.

Might wana put ALOT of research into this before you just head over and start working.

I'd guess that a lot of them are on 12 (or 24) month working holiday visas. Under 30's can get them fairly easily and cheaply but they do have some restrictions on how you can work.

Visas are hard to get unfortunately, and it is a very expensive place to live.

But CA is a wonderful place to live if you are a sporty type.

Only place better for active folks is CO.

If you are serious about it then there are probably ways to achieve this, but there are many, many easier places to emigrate to.

I feel like I need to whisper this, but unfortunately this is the internet, so I need to type it. Get a holiday visa. [deleted by a moderator]

You wouldn't be the first to do so (c. 12 million Mexicans) and certainly wouldn't be the last.

There undoubtedly are illegal ways to do it. But please don't suggest them here, it's just not worth the risk of having boards.ie face the consequences.

OP before you even consider illegal options, do some googling about the "plight" of the un-documented Irish - especially look for info about what happens to people who get sick or have an accident while they're illegally in the country.
