Phoenix Park Gate - someone please explain!

Having driven through the Castleknock gate this evening for the first time since..cant remember when...I realised how much it pissed me off! What the F_uck is the story with the 1 way entrance/exit which leads out into the blind spot of the junction of 2 main roads with absolutely no sightlines!

..."Yes, but the gates and pillars are listed structures and form part of our cities heritage - so much so that we're willing to significantly compromise road safety. It's called the Pheonix Park.

It has gates.
