as most wise inhabitants of this forum knows the old toyota 2.0 ltr petrol engines have unreal emission problems, as the rubber rings under the valves harden this in turn allows oil to enter the chamber, in turn is results in the center of the cat being burned out, this leads to nct failures, how do one overcome this problem, thanks in advance for your help.
edit to read toyota 1994-1996 import.

Can you be more specific than just saying "old engines". Which engine specifically?

i should have said 95 rav4 import,it is due for the nct next month, i cannot afford to replace it, also i cannot afford to spend an arm and a leg on it, as it is high off the road and is an auto box both are a necessity for me.

Well i have experience with a 95 corolla that burned a ton of oil and had blue smoke on start for over two years but still passed the emmissions test comfortably. A toyota mechanic told me the key was to drive it at high revs in fourth gear for at least half an hour before the test. Not sure the effect of this but it passed two tests.

I have a 1989 corolla, she has flew through every N.C.T emissions because I add stuff to the petrol by an american company called Lucas, It cleans out the entire system and keeps her running very nicely.

The above ideas may work to squeeze it through a test but the only way to actually eliminate the problem is to have the valve stem seals replaced.
