Im loonging to put a new socket in an bedroom upstairs, all the upstairs sockets are on a ring circuit. There is a socket in the attic and was just wondering could I run a cable from that to the new socket without having to run a second to put it in the ring. So just branching of that socket if you know what I mean, is this aganist the regs? The mcb is rated to 20amps

might be a ring circuit derated to 20amp(breakers that came with CU)

    and spur to attic

-your circuit is fused at 20amp anyhow
so your 2.5 will prob be protected if you connect

the old rules alllowed a short branch off a ring for a socket-this isn't allowed in the new rules

-everything goes on the ring now
