TT quattro & black is good.

No one in here will ever recommend a Hyundai coupe over an Audi TT, if they did they should be banned!

Hyundai Coupe all the way :D

    Best colour is red imo.

Buy on condition and history rather than colour. Get a 225 if you can.

It is not even fair to compare these two cars as they are not in the same league as each other.

The TT has the go to match the looks whereas the Coupe doesn't but performance is probably not a top priority with the OP if considering the Coupe.

The TT is also a really nice place to sit, even when it's parked. The Hyundai is like being inside a binbag.

I would. Let's be honest, the kind of person who asks the question almost certainly isn't interested in the Audi's better performance/dynamics. The Hyundai will do what they want, cheaper. In any case, even the TT's performance is essentially abstract - i've never seen one being driven with anything approaching conviction.

The OP had another thread here about felt spec white audi A4s complete with black roof and was kinda persuaded away from that look.

You'd be surprised, Hyundai Coupes are really heavy and they're absolute sows on juice!

TT ten times over. They're a two seat though. Everything about them is brilliant. The 180 has plenty of poke too for any driver.

Yes i had another tread and people managed to change my mind, i was directed to the Audi TT which i had not looked at because didn't think you could have got them so cheap.

I have always liked the Hyundai, look wise but I also like the TT.

By the sounds of things the TT is the way to go.

Buying a new car is a very tough.

When it says 4 seater it means 2 front seats and a childs set of golf clubs across the back seats.

That goes for both the TT and the Hynundai Coupe. The footroom is non existent. You can possibly fit one person in but they will be sitting funny if they are anyway average size.

The coupe has an awful awful cheap interior which is suprising considering the effort in the exterior styling.

TT hands down, but dont buy it if youve got more than 1 friend.

Well mine was well driven and tbh it surprised me how it survived mayo roads rattle free. THe interior is very well put together (apart from the parcel shelf).

I put 2 rear shocks and a set of D bushes in the front over 3 years ownership and it was about 6 years old at the time with over 100k miles on it.
The shocks just got a little weak but it became very fond of stepping out at the rear on turn in. remained very controllable though thankfully, still when changed, all was well again.

I was in one last week for the first time, and I wondered if anything could actually fit in the back, nevermind a person!

But in the front it's a nice place to be, radio is a bit cheap looking but the silver TT cover looks really good over it. Twas a 225 I was in, had a nice bit of go alright!

TT is 1.8T 180hp.. what engine is Hyndai? if it is in similar power, why not Hyndai? IMO 180hp on TT doesn't make it right

Handling and performance is not an issue for the OP. The colour of the car seems to be the deciding factor. People should base their replies on this.

Coupe is like 100hp. Front wheel drive, manky inside, handles like a lantra, not in the same league really.

The tt looks great inside and out, drives very well, has loads of nice touches and attention to detail, everything feels great, the curved roof makes it feel batmobile-like inside.

The coupe is nice looking on the outside. That's all it does.

    I just googled it there and you're right. That's a disgrace for a 2.7 V6. Seriously, wtf!

    TT all the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

The 2.7 V6 in the Coupe was dropped straight in from the Sonata/Santa Fe/Trajet. It was to appeal to the Americans where it was the best selling version. The Coupe was obviously never designed with performance in mind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

With the right (high revving variable valve timing vtec/mivec style) engine the coupe could have been great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,178 ✭✭✭thirtythirty

    TT.

And sure it means you won't be one of the ones suddenly deciding you need a jeep when we (hopefully) get bucket loads of snow in Novemember because you'll have 4 wheel drive!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,047 ✭✭✭freestyla

Handles like Lantra? noo.. I see reviews it handles very well and built quality is good, looks very good streamlined from outside..imo looks better than bubbling TT, especially in black with black wheels

    car_photo_26200_7.jpg

and is comfy too for everyday ride. Like really up to date affordable coupe. The only minus is poor ish V6 performance but is still V6 which suits coupes sporty appeal.

TT is a step better build quality but is it worth price difference?
I d have Coupe and spend that extra money on summer road trips.. or buy sport air filter and a bit larger exhaust to make better noise from that V6

Its just bummer both re front wheel drive.

A friend just replaced his 01 225 quattro with an 07 2.0TSFi, he couldn't drive a nail. Essentially it's a poser thing for him. I drove the 225 one, it felt very very sterile.

When you think of all the savage motors you'd get for the price of a 2007 TT.

Firstly, nobody buys the 2.7 as the tax is over €1000, over twice that of a TT 225
Secondly the difference in the interior is the same as comparing a Hyundai accent and an Audi a4. Huge difference.
Third, there's nothing wrong with fwd, once It's done properly.

I get the feeling you've not driven either car?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

I've driven the two of them a good bit, the only benefit to the Coupe is it has a bigger boot. Other than that there's absolutely no reason to choose one over the TT.

I think that's being nice about it. IMO half the reason TTs crawl around is that they're driven by nerds who hope it'll help them pull, the other half is that the car just doesn't want to be driven hard. Limerick man is the exception that proves the rule.:)

In fairness, for a single, late twenties, fashionable male they could be a better. They're great craic to drive, they still look very modern and they're very well built.

If you mean because it has twin exhausts, the single one on the 180 can be changed you just need a new exhaust, and rear trim, you might also need a kit to connect the exhaust but it can be done.

Wife had one, (180 BHP Quattro)

I always felt embarrassed driving it and found it heavy and boring...

Even acting the idiot in 2nd gear on deserted roundabouts was boring. a car can have too much grip...

Least fun car i've driven after a VW passat diesel...

That's such a load of horse poo! It's one of the least boring cars to be in and there's plenty of poke in it. There's no better feeling than knowing you're planted going into a roundabout, you can take them a higher speeds... So it's either you thinking 20mph is fast through a roundabout or someone is very hard to please!

Lots of grip no doubt but I feel you were driving the roundabout in a manner similar to the passat in the TT if it felt so boring. I found it a great little car to through around. Certainly very planted under normal conditions but to suggest that it couldnt be unstuck is kinda foolish.

I'm sure it was possible, but I found it heavy and the steering very dead.

We did the ring of kerry with it too, found it tiring and uncomfortable, even on the more interesting roads around kerry...

Glad to see the usual Audi and TT bashing hasnt had the brainwashing effect I thought I was going to see when I opened this thread!

Indeed, with the tuning and performance options of the TT only someone with no interest in cars (or posing :) ) could possibly choose the Coupe. At a stretch the only thing it would have over the TT is it might be a little more reliable, not hard as its so basic.

Ok, TT is cramped, the steering is heavy, it drinks fuel, and the boot is pathetic.

Aesthetically, I like it, but living with it for over a year, I felt like a fashion victim.

However, whenever I rented a 1.6 Focus, (or better, Mk1 Focus 1.8 in UK) I was impresed by crisp handling and a real fun factor. My point is that the TT is very over-rated as a drivers car, and I merely use the Focus to illustrate that point

Maybe it was the 225 section 17 inch wheels which made the steering heavy and the drive tiring .

I'd still go for a TT over a Hyundai though.. At least you'd be a fashion victim with taste, rather than copying a middle aged Fine Gael TD who can't drive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

I hustled a 180 quattro around some windey mountain roads out west a few years ago and was impressed. Was well able to keep up with a local in a dc2 type r. I thought it was very capable and could hold speed through the bends.

I don't think anyone can say the hyundai is better. You'll get a newer one for the money alright.

    .

The focus is the most over rated car ever from a handling perspective, it's better than it's competitors in it's segment but is no great shakes when compared to a decent fwd car like a CTR, DC2, Prelude, FTO or any of the MG Zs.

I think the op should just go back looking at tdi audi a4's. Just get a decent one that's not white or wrapped in carbon fibre.
