    hi

was wanting to start out promoting music and comedy gigs locally, have a 10k budget to start with, lookin to book a few mid level irish bands(coronas, blizzards etc) and comedians, anybody have any experience in this area to let me know if its a worthwhile area to get into, i see it as ideal for me as i love music and entertainment and am generally a well organised practical person

Good luck with that Dannycorona I'd love it myself. It's hard enough to break into the scene I think as those in it already have it fairly well cornered and venues are pretty greedy even though one would think they would be happy for you to fill their place with drinkers!
You won't make much money from Irish bands but yes I can see where you're coming from - you love music like lots of us so if you can just cover costs with a little for your effort it would make it worth while.
I suggest if anyone here that is in a band that could pull a crowd for danny should get in touch with him and see if ye could help each other out.

Band Promotion isn't for promoters so I'm going to move this on over to Bands & Musicians.

Hopefully some people with experience there will be able to advise you.

A friend of mine is successfully running small gigs in Mayo - perhaps he might be able to give you some tips. Facebook link.

I would agree that building up a reputation is very important. Bands need to be certain that everything will run smoothly and the concert will be properly advertised etc and so look for a promotions company that have a proven track record, especially bands with a bigger following like the ones mentioned. Of course, if you manage to get one of them and everything runs well you will probably skip alot of steps on the ladder to making a busy successful business for yourself. I have never worked in this area altho i can imagine it would be a fairly entertaining and rewarding job so best of luck with it.

What is your local area by the way? Im a true believer that people in the Irish music industry should be helping eachother out as much as possible so maybe there are bands with a good following in your area that can help ya get started. Also, i have no idea if they do this but maybe check with people like MCD/Aiken for an apprenticeship or the likes. Would be golden experience with the biggest names in it and a great view into how they do it.
