Hi all-just wondering if anyone knows of any websites or employers who specialise or hire people just for night shifts..I have 2 children under 2 and a husband who works full week incl weekends-I don't have anyone to mind the babies while I work and can't afford creche or childminder so am looking to do nights-maybe 2 or 3 a week....

it's very hard to find any websites with information-its all full or part time daytime work-that is not an option at the moment for me unfortunately.

    anyone have any info?

I used to be a night carer in a residential home. 2x13h nights a week. Start at 8pm finish at 9pm. You do need some sleep during the day though.

A care home would be a good idea; the night pay is usually a fair bit more than day rate(15%+). Ring around the homes in your area if you are interested, can be a good way to get a job!
    Good luck!

Can anyone work in an old persons hope as a night assistant? Even someone untrained? Are they hiring at the moment? 3 12 hour night shifts a week would suit me perfectly.

Would a university degree suffice or do you need to do a specific course?

My short lived romantic notions of a 'night watchmen' has quickly disappeared by the way. I imagined myself writing sentimental poetry whilst watching the moonlight, slowly burning the long hours between dusk and dawn; the reality would probably be much harsher, probably involving helping old ladies use the toilet.

Fetac level 5 Healthcare Support http://www.fetac.ie/fetac/awardsDirectory.do?method=getMajorAwardDetails&majorAwardId=5447&fromPage=awardsByField

it's going to be pretty hard getting in anywhere with out it (but not un-doable) the norm is doing a few nighs then a few days off before doing days but a lot of places are pretty flexiy or you could try an agency

Depends where you are , certain types dementia can make nights very errrr interesting at times , on the other hand sometimes you can have nice quiet nights , it’s a job you have to love because the pay is crap and the work can be very dirty ,think on the lines of showering some one that is covered in faeces from their face to their toes (not that common but it does happen that people are that covered it) and keep in mind if some one wants to stay up till 6 in the morning it is their right to do so , so not every one will go to bed at lights out time , shifts are norm 8 to 8 so you would be getting people ready for bed (can include baths) and thoes that want to get up early up washede and dressed

I am not trying to put you off but a lot of it is changing incontinent pads these range from slip pads to full sized sticky pads (you would probably call them nappies but in care we call them incontinent pads because nappies are something babies ware) you will also be emptying kamodes ,

all that said it is prob the best job i have ever had the pleasure of doing :D
